About Rhode Island

4 Electoral VotesSafe Democratic
The state of Rhode Island was the last among the 13 colonies to ratify the Constitution of the United States, entering the Union in May 1790. Since then, the state has been participating in every single US Presidential Election. The state has been reliably voting for the Democrats since 1928, only voting for the Republicans twice in that era. However, the political significance of the Ocean State is quite less since it only has four electoral votes. The electorate remained unchanged since the state first participated in 1792, except for the 1910s and 1920s when it had five electoral votes. However, the state still has the most electoral votes proportional to size - one for every 303 square miles.
