Bihar Election Result 2025 Live Updates: The Election Commission removed the returning officer of Chenari assembly constituency in Bihar on Thursday evening ahead of the counting of votes on Friday.

In a statement, CEO Vinod Singh Gunjiyal directed that Lalit Bhushan Ranjan, the returning officer, be immediately relieved from all election-related duties, including the counting process.

However, what prompted the removal of Ranjan, who is posted as the additional collector-cum-additional district magistrate of Rohtas, was not immediately known.

The Election Commission replaced him with Zafar Hasan, the district land acquisition officer of Rohtas. Assembly polls in the state were held on November 6 and 11, and votes are being counted on Friday.

Bihar Election Result 2025 Live Updates: The Election Commission, which is also in charge of administrative changes during elections, has made elaborate security arrangements for counting the votes polled in the Bihar Assembly election. These arrangements have been made across 46 centres in 38 districts of the state.

Schools in Patna will remain closed on Friday in view of the counting exercise, officials said.

“An adequate number of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and personnel of the Bihar Police have been deployed across the state to ensure smooth counting, and prevent any untoward incident,” a senior officer said.

He said 106 companies of security personnel from outside the state have also been deployed.
A poll official said EVMs and VVPATs used in the elections have been sealed inside strong rooms under a double-lock system.

“Two-tier security has been ensured at the counting centres. While the inner tier has been assigned to the CAPF, state police have been deployed at the outer rung. Besides, 24/7 CCTV surveillance and other security provisions are in place,” he said.

 Bihar Election Result 2025 Live Updates: Bihar registered a historic voter turnout of 67.13 per cent in the two phases of the election to the 243-member Assembly. Votes were cast on November 6 and November 11. A total of 7.45 crore voters were eligible to decide the electoral fate of 2,616 candidates. Counting of votes will commence at 8 am on Friday.

The Election Commission has made counting arrangements in all 243 Assembly constituencies. The exercise will be conducted by 243 Returning Officers in the presence of 243 Counting Observers and the candidates or their agents.

“A total of 4,372 counting tables, each staffed with one supervisor, counting assistant and micro-observer, have been set up. More than 18,000 Counting Agents appointed by the nominees will also oversee the process,” the Election Commission said in a statement.

As per the Commission’s directions, postal ballot counting will begin first, and counting of EVMs will start at 8.30 am.

Bihar Election Result 2025 Live Updates: Exit polls have been nearly unanimous in predicting a clean sweep for the NDA, of which the JDU is a part, much to the annoyance of the Opposition Grand Alliance. Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD leader whom the Opposition coalition has named its chief ministerial candidate, rubbished these predictions and claimed Mahagathbandhan would form the government with a thumping majority.

• Leaders across the political spectrum of Bihar on Thursday held hectic parleys and reviewed last-minute preparations before the counting of votes began in all 38 district headquarters on Friday morning.
• The just concluded high-stakes assembly polls will decide whether Nitish Kumar, the longest-serving chief minister, will get a record fifth term or Bihar will see a new face in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
• RJD leader and Grand Alliance’s CM candidate Tejashwi Yadav said his party workers and the common people were ready to handle “any unconstitutional activity during counting”.
• Meanwhile, a lesser-known RJD leader, Sunil Kumar Singh, threatened that a “Nepal-like situation” would be witnessed on the streets if “counting is halted, like in 2020”.
• The BJP, on the other hand, said the RJD leaders’ remarks expressed their despair as the people, who have sealed their mandate in EVMs, have decided to give another term to the NDA.
• Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal said the party leaders are in constant touch with workers at counting centres and hoped that, as the polling went peacefully, the counting day would also remain eventless.

Bihar Election Result 2025 Live Updates: The Bihar Assembly election is a battle of political might between two coalitions — the NDA, which is ruling the state, and the Grand Alliance or Mahagathbandhan, which is the Opposition coalition.

The NDA in Bihar comprises five parties, though a bulk of seats, in the 243-strong Assembly, were contested by JDU and BJP, both of which fielded candidates in 101 constituencies each.

The Grand Alliance includes RJD, Congress, CPI(ML) Liberation, other Left parties, and Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP).

Prominent candidates of both alliances who are in the fray include Deputy Chief Ministers Samart Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, JJD’s Tej Pratap and Bihar Congress president Rajesh Kumar.
