IPL 2020 Highlights, MI vs DC Match, Full Cricket Score: Mumbai Indians clinch victory by five wickets

Man of the Match, Quinton de Kock: All went well eventually for us. In the nets, I have been batting really well, I wasn’t too stressed and eventually, I just made sure that I capitalised. It is obviously tough out here with the humidity and heat, but glad I came good.

Rohit Sharma: “The kind of cricket we are playing gives us a lot of confidence. It’s important to have momentum with us, and it was a perfect day for us. Clinical with the bat, but not so much towards the end. We need one set batsman to finish off the game in general, and some set batsmen got out today, but I don’t want to point fingers because chasing has been difficult in this tournament. Whatever the conditions are, we need to come out and play good cricket. It’s important to have those partnerships and today it got us over the line.”

Ishan Kishan: I did not finish the match, me and Surya should have finished the match. But still a good learning experience for us. We just needed to be positive, we did just that. DC have done well, they have bowled well, but we just stuck to the process.

Shreyas Iyer: “We were definitely 10-15 runs short. We really missed out when Stoinis got run out. That is something we need to work on. We need to work on our fielding as well. Overall they outplayed us. We need to work on our mindset for the next game.  We have no idea when Rishabh is back. I spoke to the doctor, and he said he will be resting for a week.”

Stoinis with the last over. DC again banking on him for a crucial situation. Pandya flicks the first for a boundary towards square leg. Shaw misfields at point and Krunal sneaks a single off the second. A single from Pollard levels the score off the third. All men are up in the circle, Krunal gets on the backfoot and again pulls it square of the wicket for a boundary.

DONE AND DUSTED! MI beat DC by five wickets and with this, they also displace Deli at the top of the table.

Four! Into the pads and Krunal flicks it off his pads for a boundary. Fine leg’s up and deep backward square is way square.

Nortje into the penultimate over of the innings. Krunal pokes the first one for a single towards third man. A referral for lbw by DC on the second ball against Pollard, but the umpire turns it down as it was going down leg. The South African clocks 142 on the third ball, Pollard goes for the wild slog but misses. Pollard then gives the strike to Krunal, who returns the favour off the fifth. Great over from the South African, just three off it.

Rabada bowls the 18th over. Pollard nudges the ball into the gap for a single. This will do it, they just need run a ball from here on. Kishan smacks the second one towards square leg for a six and then departs on the next one, after hitting it straight to Axar in the covers. Eight runs off the over. Mumbai Indians need 10 runs in 12 balls.

OUT! Really no need of the big shot, run-a-ball will do it. Kishan tried to go for a wild slog again but ends up handing a simple catch to Axar Patel.

Nortje steams in for his third and starts off with a beautiful yorker against Pollard. Still the West Indian picks up a single. Kishan returns the favour with a single towards square leg . The third and fourth deliveries are both dots. Pollard pulls the penultimate ball for a four towards square leg. Eight runs off the over.

Mumbai Indians need 18 runs in 18 balls.

Four! Pollard pulls it towards square leg for a boundary. That will release some pressure.

Bowls a perfect good length delivery around the off stump and removes Hardik Pandya, who edges the ball straight into the gloves of Pant. Pollard joins Kishan at the crease and gets off the mark with a single off the third.  Kishan smacks a four off the last ball. Seven runs off the over. Mumbai Indians need 26 runs in 24 balls

Rabada returns. Gets smacked for a six off the third one by Suryakumar, who brings up his fifty with that. Rabada gets revenge on the next ball, removes Surya, who went for the wild slog but it was a simple catch for Iyer at mid-on.

Four! Slower one, Surya cuts it fine and that fetches him a boundary.

Marcus Stoinis, right-arm medium, comes into the attack. Kishan punches the first ball towards mid off for a single. Surya returns the favour, sharp single there. Kishan whacks the third delivery over deep mid-wicket for a six and ends the over with a boundary. 14 runs off the over. Mumbai Indians need 47 runs in 36 balls.

Four! Way too wide, outside off from Stoinis and Kishan just had to get bat to ball there. The ball went towards third man like a trace of bullet.

SIX! Smallest part of the ground there. In the zone for Kishan, who whacks it over deep mid-wicket for a biggie.

Axar returns. A misfield by Shaw on the second ball allows Surya to pick up a boundary. Surya then sweeps it square of the wicket for another four. Costly one this, 11 runs off it.

Four! Terrible. Misfield by Shaw at square leg. Surya and MI will take that.

Ashwin returns. Tosses the first one up to Suryakumar, who goes over the covers for a boundary. Good cricket from Surya as he rotates the strike off the next ball. Both batsmen just happy to nudge the ball into the gaps for singles on the final three deliveries off the over. Nine runs off the over.

Four! Surya goes on backfoot and goes over cover for a boundary. Classy stuff.

Rabada steams in for his second over. Starts off with a wide, way down the leg side. A comedy of errors on the second ball, the ball hits the stumps at Surya’s end, then DC aim at Kishan’s end. Both batsmen survive somehow. Finally, Surya guides the fourth ball towards third man for a single. A sharp, menacing bouncer from Rabada that almost took Kishan’s head off to end the over. Just three runs from the over.

Ashwin into his third over and that shows that DC want to stem the flow of runs here. Getting a breakthrough would be better, maybe that’s why Iyer has thrown the ball towards Ashwin. Suryakumar sweeps the first one towards square leg for a double. He got a hand to it but dropped Suryakumar on the fourth one. Finally removes de Kock on the fifth ball. The South African hit it straight to Shaw on the leg side. Six runs and a wicket in that over.

Out! de Kock departs! This was desperately needed. Tossed up from Ashwin and the South African holes out to Shaw at square leg. He departs after scoring 53.

Harshal returns and beats de Kock on the first ball. Still, the South African sneaks a single. Suryakumar returns the favour. De Kock smacks two consecutive fours off the third and the fourth, both were played towards the vacant fine leg region. 12 runs off the over and we go into the strategic time out!

50! Quinton de Kock brings up his fifty in style with a flick of the wrist and that’;s a boundary too.

FOUR! How good is Surya at finding the gaps. Reaches the pitch of the ball and flicks it away for boundary towards deep mid-wicket.

Spin has been introduced in the form of Axar Patel. MI openers would love to get boundaries here as pacers Rabada and Nortje have been great upfront. De Kock tucks the fifth ball towards mid-wicket for a double. Five runs off the over, DC are keeping things tight here.

Anrich Nortje comes into the attack. An overthrow off the second ball and de Kock capitalises on it, picks up a double. Nortje bowls a tight line off the fourth and de Kock sneaks a single there. Rohit plays his trademark pull short off the penultimate ball, but gets no elevation there and it’s a dot. Just a single off the last. Just four runs off the over. Good start from DC.

Rabada with the first over for DC. Starts off with two dots, keeps the line tight on both the occasion. Rohit gets off the mark on the third delivery with a nudge towards mid-on. De Kock returns the favour off the fifth ball. Bowls way down the leg side on the final ball and it’s signalled wide by the umpire. Good over by Rabada upfront, just three runs off it. He’s clocking 140’s with such ease.

Kagiso Rabada has taken 15 wickets in this year’s IPL so far but none of them have come in PP overs.

Bumrah to Carey. Fast full toss for a single. Bowls fuller delivery in the second ball, Dhawan manages to collect two. After the four, Dhawan gets another full toss but this time, there’s no timing and it’s a single. Bumrah misses his yorkers but not too costly from him. Mumbai need 163 to win the match. Could be a tricky chase because Delhi’s bowling attack is good. Time for a break.

Boult targets the legs but Dhawan flicks it really well for a boundary.

Bumrah bowls his third over the night. Dhawan walks across and tries to beat the short fine-leg fielder but hits it straight to hin. Carey doesn’t time the slower delivery but does well to take two runs. He gets another double after pushing the yorker to deep mid-wicket. Another yorker, this time it’s only a single. Bumrah goes wide and full to Dhawan, does well to beat the batsman. A single to end the over, seven off it.

Rahul Chahar with the ball. Stoinis cuts the first ball but Rohit dives and saves three runs for his team. The run out is Stoinis’ fault. There’s never a second run despite the misfield. James Pattinson gives away a boundary off the first ball but then comes back well. He’s probably not bowling with the pace he’s known for, maybe the pitch is playing its part. He tries the bouncer to Shreyas but the pace is just 133. Not enough to trouble the batsman and no wonder it went for a boundary. A single off the last ball. 13 runs from this one.

Spin after a small break. Rahul Chahar comes to bowl. Dhawan makes little bit of room and cuts the ball to give the strike to Shreyas. The skipper tries to pierce the off-side with a slash but gets only a single. Dhawan hits the ball in the gap on the leg-side but not good enough to reach the boundary, two runs. Six off the over.

Kieron Pollard with the ball. First up is a slower ball, Shreyas takes an easy single. The straight boundary is the longest and with Pollard offering no pace at all, both batsmen are wary of taking the attack to the bowler. One four in the over, 10 off it. And we have a timeout.

A bit wide from Pollard. Dhawan cuts it really well and the fielder goes the wrong way. Rahul Chahar should’ve done better there.

Krunal Pandya into the attack. The good thing about Shreyas Iyer is he doesn’t consume many dot balls. He comes to bat with the right intent. This is a good over from the left-arm spinner. Just five off it.

James Pattinson goes for runs in his two overs. He’s not hitting the right line, and that’s a surprising factor. After three fours, the pacer does well to end over with a single and a dot. End of the powerplay.

Good timing again. Just a push on the off-side and Shreyas gets another boundary.

In the air but it’s safe. Shreyas Iyer is off the mark with a boundary. On the legs and Iyer flicks it inside the gap.

Krunal Pandya introduced into the attack. Dhawan shows intent with a sweep hit but it is straight to the fielder for one run. Rahane is a good player off the backfoot but the flatter length from Krunal made it difficult for him. Skipper Shreyas Iyer is the new man in. A six, a single and a dot to end the over.

Rahane was looking so good but now walks back to the dugout. Goes on the backfoot and tries to play on the leg-side but gets trapped in front of the stumps. He knows that’s out so doesn’t take the review. Krunal does the trick. Rahane lbw b Krunal Pandya 15(15)

Bumrah into the attack. Starts off with a good length ball to Dhawan for no run. The third ball is a low full toss but Dhawan fails to capitalise. The speed is above 140. In the next ball, the southpaw targets the mid-wicket boundary but misses his hit. Superb fielding from Ishan Kishan. Dhawan comes down the track and tries to beat the off-side field but Ishan’s dive saves four runs for his team. A single off the final ball.

Boult continues. There’s a faint LBW appeal after the second ball. Full delivery to Rahane but clearly sliding down the leg. Boult then goes short, Rahane tries the pull but no timing in the shot. The pacer targets the stumps in the fourth ball but Rahane does well there. No run. A four and a dot in the final two balls.

No slip and no third man. Boult bowls wide, Rahane attack it and gets an edge. Another boundary for the batsman.

After the first ball four, James Pattinson check his line and bowls to Rahane’s pads. The batsman flicks it straight to the square fielder. Pattinson again offers room and Rahane plays a good shot to fetch four more runs. This is his first match but Rahane is playing really eye-catchy shots. Two wides in the over, 10 off it.

He could’ve played the same block in the third ball but just opens the face of the bat without any timing and it resulted in his dismissal. He’ll be very unhappy with the shot. Ajinkya Rahane is the new batsman. He’s off with a double. A single to end the over.

We’ll come back to this game in a bit but here’s an update from Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals. Chasing 159 for victory, Rajasthan were four down for 63 but Riyan Parag and Rahul Tewatia shared a sensational partnership to take Rajasthan home. They won the game by five wickets.

Buttler, Stokes, Smith back in pavilion

In case you didn’t know, there’s an IPL going on right now and Rajasthan are in a tricky spot in the chase. They lost key batsmen Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and skipper Steve Smith against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Batting first, SRH made 158/4 in 20 overs thanks to David Warner and Manish Pandey playing good knocks. 

At the moment, SRH are in control of the match and it would need something special from Rajasthan to clinch victory.
