DC made a tidy effort to set a target of 163 before MI. The latter, however, were phenomenal and outplayed the former in all departments of the game. Fifties from Suryakumar, de Kock and a quickfire 28 from Kishan made sure MI crossed the finish line with ease. Mumbai are now at the top of the table after their five-wicket win over Delhi.

That’s it from us today, but do join us tomorrow for another cracker of a contest – RCB vs KKR. Adios!

04:06 PM (IST)

Man of the Match, Quinton de Kock: All went well eventually for us. In the nets, I have been batting really well, I wasn’t too stressed and eventually, I just made sure that I capitalised. It is obviously tough out here with the humidity and heat, but glad I came good.

04:06 PM (IST)

Rohit Sharma: “The kind of cricket we are playing gives us a lot of confidence. It’s important to have momentum with us, and it was a perfect day for us. Clinical with the bat, but not so much towards the end. We need one set batsman to finish off the game in general, and some set batsmen got out today, but I don’t want to point fingers because chasing has been difficult in this tournament. Whatever the conditions are, we need to come out and play good cricket. It’s important to have those partnerships and today it got us over the line.”

04:06 PM (IST)

Ishan Kishan: I did not finish the match, me and Surya should have finished the match. But still a good learning experience for us. We just needed to be positive, we did just that. DC have done well, they have bowled well, but we just stuck to the process.

04:06 PM (IST)

Shreyas Iyer: “We were definitely 10-15 runs short. We really missed out when Stoinis got run out. That is something we need to work on. We need to work on our fielding as well. Overall they outplayed us. We need to work on our mindset for the next game.  We have no idea when Rishabh is back. I spoke to the doctor, and he said he will be resting for a week.”

04:06 PM (IST)

After 20 overs,Mumbai Indians 166/5 ( Kieron Pollard 11 , Krunal Pandya 12)

Stoinis with the last over. DC again banking on him for a crucial situation. Pandya flicks the first for a boundary towards square leg. Shaw misfields at point and Krunal sneaks a single off the second. A single from Pollard levels the score off the third. All men are up in the circle, Krunal gets on the backfoot and again pulls it square of the wicket for a boundary.

DONE AND DUSTED! MI beat DC by five wickets and with this, they also displace Deli at the top of the table.

04:06 PM (IST)

Four! Into the pads and Krunal flicks it off his pads for a boundary. Fine leg’s up and deep backward square is way square.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 19 overs,Mumbai Indians 156/5 ( Kieron Pollard 10 , Krunal Pandya 3)

Nortje into the penultimate over of the innings. Krunal pokes the first one for a single towards third man. A referral for lbw by DC on the second ball against Pollard, but the umpire turns it down as it was going down leg. The South African clocks 142 on the third ball, Pollard goes for the wild slog but misses. Pollard then gives the strike to Krunal, who returns the favour off the fifth. Great over from the South African, just three off it.

After 18 overs,Mumbai Indians 153/5 ( Kieron Pollard 9 , Krunal Pandya 1)

Rabada bowls the 18th over. Pollard nudges the ball into the gap for a single. This will do it, they just need run a ball from here on. Kishan smacks the second one towards square leg for a six and then departs on the next one, after hitting it straight to Axar in the covers. Eight runs off the over. Mumbai Indians need 10 runs in 12 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

OUT! Really no need of the big shot, run-a-ball will do it. Kishan tried to go for a wild slog again but ends up handing a simple catch to Axar Patel.

 Ishan Kishan c Axar b Rabada 28(15)

04:06 PM (IST)

SIX! Kishan gets good connection on that one. Goes over square leg for a maximum. The fielder had a chance at a point of time but he dropped that.

04:06 PM (IST)

Nortje steams in for his third and starts off with a beautiful yorker against Pollard. Still the West Indian picks up a single. Kishan returns the favour with a single towards square leg . Mumbai Indians need 18 runs in 18 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

04:06 PM (IST)

Four! Way too wide, outside off from Stoinis and Kishan just had to get bat to ball there. The ball went towards third man like a trace of bullet.

04:06 PM (IST)

SIX! Smallest part of the ground there. In the zone for Kishan, who whacks it over deep mid-wicket for a biggie.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 13 overs,Mumbai Indians 102/2 ( Suryakumar Yadav 38 , Ishan Kishan 3)

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Surya sweeps it square of the wicket for a boundary. Shaw won’t reach that either.

04:06 PM (IST)

04:06 PM (IST)

After 12 overs,Mumbai Indians 90/2 ( Suryakumar Yadav 27 , Ishan Kishan 2)

Ashwin returns. Tosses the first one up to Suryakumar, who goes over the covers for a boundary. Good cricket from Surya as he rotates the strike off the next ball. Both batsmen just happy to nudge the ball into the gaps for singles on the final three deliveries off the over. Nine runs off the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

Four! Surya goes on backfoot and goes over cover for a boundary. Classy stuff.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 11 overs,Mumbai Indians 81/2 ( Suryakumar Yadav 20 , Ishan Kishan 0)

Rabada steams in for his second over. Starts off with a wide, way down the leg side. A comedy of errors on the second ball, the ball hits the stumps at Surya’s end, then DC aim at Kishan’s end. Both batsmen survive somehow. Finally, Surya guides the fourth ball towards third man for a single. A sharp, menacing bouncer from Rabada that almost took Kishan’s head off to end the over. Just three runs from the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 10 overs,Mumbai Indians 78/2 ( Suryakumar Yadav 19 , Ishan Kishan 0)

Ashwin into his third over and that shows that DC want to stem the flow of runs here. Getting a breakthrough would be better, maybe that’s why Iyer has thrown the ball towards Ashwin. Suryakumar sweeps the first one towards square leg for a double. He got a hand to it but dropped Suryakumar on the fourth one. Finally removes de Kock on the fifth ball. The South African hit it straight to Shaw on the leg side. Six runs and a wicket in that over.

04:06 PM (IST)

04:06 PM (IST)

SIX! Short from Nortje, de Kock swivels on his feet and smokes it over fine leg for a six.

04:06 PM (IST)

04:06 PM (IST)

After 3 overs,Mumbai Indians 12/0 ( Rohit Sharma (C) 4 , Quinton de Kock (W) 7)

Spin has been introduced in the form of Axar Patel. MI openers would love to get boundaries here as pacers Rabada and Nortje have been great upfront. De Kock tucks the fifth ball towards mid-wicket for a double. Five runs off the over, DC are keeping things tight here.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 2 overs,Mumbai Indians 7/0 ( Rohit Sharma (C) 2 , Quinton de Kock (W) 4)

Anrich Nortje comes into the attack. An overthrow off the second ball and de Kock capitalises on it, picks up a double. Nortje bowls a tight line off the fourth and de Kock sneaks a single there. Rohit plays his trademark pull short off the penultimate ball, but gets no elevation there and it’s a dot. Just a single off the last. Just four runs off the over. Good start from DC.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 1 overs,Mumbai Indians 3/0 ( Rohit Sharma (C) 1 , Quinton de Kock (W) 1)

Rabada with the first over for DC. Starts off with two dots, keeps the line tight on both the occasion. Rohit gets off the mark on the third delivery with a nudge towards mid-on. De Kock returns the favour off the fifth ball. Bowls way down the leg side on the final ball and it’s signalled wide by the umpire. Good over by Rabada upfront, just three runs off it. He’s clocking 140’s with such ease.

04:06 PM (IST)

Kagiso Rabada has taken 15 wickets in this year’s IPL so far but none of them have come in PP overs.

04:06 PM (IST)

Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock are out in the middle and will open for MI while Kagiso Rabada will take the new ball for DC. Let’s go!

04:06 PM (IST)

After 20 overs,Delhi Capitals 162/4 ( Shikhar Dhawan 69 , Alex Carey (W) 14)

Bumrah to Carey. Fast full toss for a single. Bowls fuller delivery in the second ball, Dhawan manages to collect two. After the four, Dhawan gets another full toss but this time, there’s no timing and it’s a single. Bumrah misses his yorkers but not too costly from him. Mumbai need 163 to win the match. Could be a tricky chase because Delhi’s bowling attack is good. Time for a break.

04:06 PM (IST)

Well done Dhawan. Sits deep in his crease against Bumrah and finds the gap in the deep mid-wicket

04:06 PM (IST)

After 19 overs,Delhi Capitals 150/4 ( Shikhar Dhawan 62 , Alex Carey (W) 9)

Boult to Dhawan. Short and Dhawan pulls but it is straight to the deep mid-wicket for one run. Good yorker to Carey for just a single. Boult gives away a two more single but then concedes a boundary. He finishes off with a perfect yorker for no run. Eight off it. One over remaining.

04:06 PM (IST)

Boult targets the legs but Dhawan flicks it really well for a boundary.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 18 overs,Delhi Capitals 142/4 ( Shikhar Dhawan 56 , Alex Carey (W) 7)

Bumrah bowls his third over the night. Dhawan walks across and tries to beat the short fine-leg fielder but hits it straight to hin. Carey doesn’t time the slower delivery but does well to take two runs. He gets another double after pushing the yorker to deep mid-wicket. Another yorker, this time it’s only a single. Bumrah goes wide and full to Dhawan, does well to beat the batsman. A single to end the over, seven off it.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 17 overs,Delhi Capitals 135/4 ( Shikhar Dhawan 54 , Alex Carey (W) 2)

Rahul Chahar with the ball. Stoinis cuts the first ball but Rohit dives and saves three runs for his team. The run out is Stoinis’ fault. There’s never a second run despite the misfield. Dhawan then tries the reverse sweep, gets a massive to edge but it’s safe. Alex Carey is the new batsman. Eight off the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

Oh confusion after a misfield but Stoinis is run out!

Dhawan says no to the second run but Stoinis is already away from the line. Stoinis run out (Suryakumar Yadav/Rahul Chahar) 13(8)

04:06 PM (IST)

Boult starts off with a wide on the off-side. Dhawan plays the anchor role today and he reaches the 50-run mark. His first half-century of the season. Costly over from Boult. 16 off it, including three fours and two wides.

04:06 PM (IST)

And now Stoinis beats the covers fielder. Back-to-back boundaries for him.

04:06 PM (IST)

Stoinis makes room and beats the mid-off fielder. His first boundary of the night.

04:06 PM (IST)

Dhawan with the perfect cut against Boult. Chahar makes the run from deep point but the ball wins the race.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 15 overs,Delhi Capitals 111/3 ( Shikhar Dhawan 45 , Marcus Stoinis 2)

Krunal Pandya has a good day with the ball. When it was looking dangerous with the partnership, he makes the breakthrough. His flatter deliveries have been really effective. Marcus Stoinis, the in-form power-hitter comes to the middle. He starts off with a double in the fine-leg region. Four overs over for Krunal. He gives away only 26 runs for two wickets.

04:06 PM (IST)

Big wicket of Shreyas Iyer!

The skipper muscles the ball towards the deep mid-wicket but Trent Boult is there to take the catch. It was travelling fast but Boult’s position is spot on.

04:06 PM (IST)

SR v Bumrah in IPL:

Shikhar Dhawan : 129.82
Shreyas Iyer : 170.59

04:06 PM (IST)

Fuller and wide from Krunal. Shreyas places the ball perfectly in the gap on the off-side.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 14 overs,Delhi Capitals 103/2 ( Shikhar Dhawan 44 , Shreyas Iyer (C) 37)

Chahar does well after conceding a boundary off the first ball. Changes the pace to confuse the batsmen but no wickets for him. Shreyas comes down the track in the final ball but doesn’t get proper connection. Eight off it.

04:06 PM (IST)

Dhawan hits it really hard straight down the ground. Much-needed boundary for Delhi Capitals

04:06 PM (IST)

After 13 overs,Delhi Capitals 95/2 ( Shikhar Dhawan 38 , Shreyas Iyer (C) 35)

Krunal to Shreyas. Almost a wicket. The batsman check his drive and the ball bounces just before the bowler. The third ball is a wide full toss, Dhawan should’ve taken that opportunity but it’s just a single. He gets another low full toss but the timing’s off. Just four single in this one. Three overs without a boundary ball.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 12 overs,Delhi Capitals 91/2 ( Shikhar Dhawan 36 , Shreyas Iyer (C) 33)

Bumrah is back. Slower ball first up, Dhawan makes room and cuts it. The ball was in the air but to the right of point fielder for one run. Both batsmen are dealing in singles and double at the moment. Six runs from this over. Bumrah’s two overs went for just seven runs.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 11 overs,Delhi Capitals 85/2 ( Shikhar Dhawan 32 , Shreyas Iyer (C) 31)

Rahul Chahar continues. Shikhar Dhawan loves batting against Mumbai Indians. In the IPL, he has scored 696* runs against them. He’s set here to make a big one. Chahar does well again. Just five runs from this over.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 10 overs,Delhi Capitals 80/2 ( Shikhar Dhawan 29 , Shreyas Iyer (C) 29)

James Pattinson gives away a boundary off the first ball but then comes back well. He’s probably not bowling with the pace he’s known for, maybe the pitch is playing its part. He tries the bouncer to Shreyas but the pace is just 133. Not enough to trouble the batsman and no wonder it went for a boundary. A single off the last ball. 13 runs from this one.

04:06 PM (IST)

Short ball from Pattinson. Shreyas bends his knee and guides the ball over keeper’s head for another boundary.

04:06 PM (IST)

Not a good ball from Pattinson. Shreyas easily finds the gap in the gully region for a boundary.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 9 overs,Delhi Capitals 67/2 ( Shikhar Dhawan 28 , Shreyas Iyer (C) 18)

Spin after a small break. Rahul Chahar comes to bowl. Dhawan makes little bit of room and cuts the ball to give the strike to Shreyas. The skipper tries to pierce the off-side with a slash but gets only a single. Dhawan hits the ball in the gap on the leg-side but not good enough to reach the boundary, two runs. Six off the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 8 overs,Delhi Capitals 61/2 ( Shikhar Dhawan 24 , Shreyas Iyer (C) 16)

Kieron Pollard with the ball. First up is a slower ball, Shreyas takes an easy single. The straight boundary is the longest and with Pollard offering no pace at all, both batsmen are wary of taking the attack to the bowler. One four in the over, 10 off it. And we have a timeout.

04:06 PM (IST)

A bit wide from Pollard. Dhawan cuts it really well and the fielder goes the wrong way. Rahul Chahar should’ve done better there.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 7 overs,Delhi Capitals 51/2 ( Shikhar Dhawan 16 , Shreyas Iyer (C) 14)

Krunal Pandya into the attack. The good thing about Shreyas Iyer is he doesn’t consume many dot balls. He comes to bat with the right intent. This is a good over from the left-arm spinner. Just five off it.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 6 overs,Delhi Capitals 46/2 ( Shikhar Dhawan 15 , Shreyas Iyer (C) 10)

James Pattinson goes for runs in his two overs. He’s not hitting the right line, and that’s a surprising factor. After three fours, the pacer does well to end over with a single and a dot. End of the powerplay.

04:06 PM (IST)

Good timing again. Just a push on the off-side and Shreyas gets another boundary.

04:06 PM (IST)

In the air but it’s safe. Shreyas Iyer is off the mark with a boundary. On the legs and Iyer flicks it inside the gap.

04:06 PM (IST)

MI pacers’ economy rate in powerplay overs this IPL:

Boult : 6.92
Pattinson : 7.73
Bumrah : 6.00

04:06 PM (IST)

Deft touch from Dhawan as the ball races away to the third-man boundary. Nicely done!

04:06 PM (IST)

After 5 overs,Delhi Capitals 32/2 ( Shikhar Dhawan 10 , Shreyas Iyer (C) 1)

Krunal Pandya introduced into the attack. Dhawan shows intent with a sweep hit but it is straight to the fielder for one run. Rahane is a good player off the backfoot but the flatter length from Krunal made it difficult for him. Skipper Shreyas Iyer is the new man in. A six, a single and a dot to end the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

Dhawan with the slog-sweep against Krunal and he’s successful in his attempt. First six for him.

04:06 PM (IST)

LBW!

Rahane was looking so good but now walks back to the dugout. Goes on the backfoot and tries to play on the leg-side but gets trapped in front of the stumps. He knows that’s out so doesn’t take the review. Krunal does the trick. Rahane lbw b Krunal Pandya 15(15)

04:06 PM (IST)

After 4 overs,Delhi Capitals 23/1 ( Shikhar Dhawan 2 , Ajinkya Rahane 15)

Bumrah into the attack. Starts off with a good length ball to Dhawan for no run. The third ball is a low full toss but Dhawan fails to capitalise. The speed is above 140. In the next ball, the southpaw targets the mid-wicket boundary but misses his hit. Superb fielding from Ishan Kishan. Dhawan comes down the track and tries to beat the off-side field but Ishan’s dive saves four runs for his team. A single off the final ball.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 3 overs,Delhi Capitals 22/1 ( Shikhar Dhawan 1 , Ajinkya Rahane 15)

Boult continues. There’s a faint LBW appeal after the second ball. Full delivery to Rahane but clearly sliding down the leg. Boult then goes short, Rahane tries the pull but no timing in the shot. The pacer targets the stumps in the fourth ball but Rahane does well there. No run. A four and a dot in the final two balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

No slip and no third man. Boult bowls wide, Rahane attack it and gets an edge. Another boundary for the batsman.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 2 overs,Delhi Capitals 17/1 ( Shikhar Dhawan 0 , Ajinkya Rahane 11)

After the first ball four, James Pattinson check his line and bowls to Rahane’s pads. The batsman flicks it straight to the square fielder. Pattinson again offers room and Rahane plays a good shot to fetch four more runs. This is his first match but Rahane is playing really eye-catchy shots. Two wides in the over, 10 off it.

04:06 PM (IST)

Oh that’s a good-looking shot.

Width on offer from Pattinson. Rahane opens the blade and beats the off-side fielder for a four.

04:06 PM (IST)

Rahane greets James Pattinson with a solid drive on the off-side. He looks in good touch.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 1 overs,Delhi Capitals 7/1 ( Shikhar Dhawan 0 , Ajinkya Rahane 3)

Boult to Shaw. A bit of inswing. Yorker length and Shaw does well to block it. He could’ve played the same block in the third ball but just opens the face of the bat without any timing and it resulted in his dismissal. He’ll be very unhappy with the shot. Ajinkya Rahane is the new batsman. He’s off with a double. A single to end the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

Shaw departs!

Full length ball from Boult. Shaw opens the face of the bat but hits it straight to the fielder at cover. Breakthrough in the first over for Mumbai. Prithvi Shaw c Krunal Pandya b Boult 4(3)

04:06 PM (IST)

No deep third-man as the ball takes the edge off Shaw’s bat and races away to the boundary.

04:06 PM (IST)

Alright then. Time to focus on this big game between two of the most dominating teams this season. Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan take charge for Delhi Capitals. Trent Boult with the new ball for Mumbai Indians. Time for the first over of the match.

It is not just about boundaries even if they are inherent to the T20 game. Look at Virat Kohli’s knock – 90 not out off 52 balls with only 4 fours and 4 sixes. That’s a total of 40 runs from boundaries. The rest? It is a gobsmacking fact that Kohli ran 50 of those runs, in a T20 match, in that Dubai heat and humidity.

Buttler, Stokes, Smith back in pavilion

In case you didn’t know, there’s an IPL going on right now and Rajasthan are in a tricky spot in the chase. They lost key batsmen Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and skipper Steve Smith against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Batting first, SRH made 158/4 in 20 overs thanks to David Warner and Manish Pandey playing good knocks.

At the moment, SRH are in control of the match and it would need something special from Rajasthan to clinch victory.
