Indian Premier League (IPL) side Punjab Kings announced their new home ground for the upcoming season. It was announced that Punjab Kings’ home matches will be hosted by the newly-developed Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali. The stadium, which has been hosting domestic matches for the past few years, was built with all the modern facilities as well as top-notch infrastructure. The stadium has a seating capacity of 33,000 fans.

PCA secretary Dilsher Khanna thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) for giving approval to the new stadium. “The BCCI has approved the PCA Mullanpur stadium for the upcoming IPL game on March 23. We are grateful to the BCCI secretary for showing faith in us. We want the fans to enjoy the game at the new stadium,” he said.

The Mullanpur stadium also has a sophisticated herringbone drainage system - this ensures it swiftly removes water within 25-30 minutes after rainfall, ensuring minimal disruptions. The ground surface is composed of sand, as opposed to traditional soil and hence, offers superior stability albeit requiring meticulous maintenance.

Apart from this, the stadium also has two international-standard dressing rooms that come with steam rooms, saunas, and ice baths. There is also a state-of-the-art gymnasium that has been built within the complex.

The first match that will be played at the stadium is against Delhi Capitals on 23 March. According to the information shared by the Punjab Kings franchise, all the home matches of the side for IPL 2024 will be played in Mullanpur. Currently, only one home game has been confirmed for Punjab Kings this season. The remaining schedule will be announced once the dates for the general elections are announced.

Earlier this month, Caroline Rowett, the British Deputy High Commissioner in Chandigarh, visited the stadium. She expressed gratitude to Dilsher Khanna, the PCA Honorary Secretary, and vice-president Preet Mohinder Singh Banga for allowing her the chance to tour the venue.

Punjab Kings will be keen to change their fortunes and go all the way this season. There have been plenty of changes in the side over the years, but after their appearance in the IPL 2014 final against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings have not managed to reach the playoffs even once.
