Compared to an over(ab)used World War II genre, the wild and untamed West hasn’t been exploited a lot in games. Of the top of my head, I can only think of two games set in the West in the recent past; one was Rockstar’s Red Dead Revolver, which should have been shot on sight and the other was Neversoft’s Gun, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Even though the game didn’t do very well for itself I’m hoping Neversoft do a sequel.

Since that isn’t happening anytime soon you may want to tame your rednecking urges with Call of Juarez (pronounced Warez), a first person shooter set in the John Wayne era, brought to you courtesy Ubisoft.

Call of Juarez (CoJ) will follow the life of Ray, a gunslinger turned preacher and Billy … a young teenager, who isn’t anybody special as they go around doing what they do best, which I assume is killing bad men.

CoJ will allow players to indulge in some classic gunslinging action, including duels, shootout and barroom brawls.

As of now, the title seems to be a PC exclusive and is expected to hit shelves by Summer 2006.

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now. see more
