Far Cry Outpost app lets you unlock more weapon mods and track stats

Ubisoft has released a new app for smartphones—Far Cry Outpost. The app is meant to be used while playing the latest FPS by the company, Far Cry 3. According to the press release, the app lets players decode encrypted data that they might find during game sessions in the co-op or multiplayer modes.

It also allows players to track their progress through the daily and weekly challenges, check out their stats and compare with their friends, and keep track of the maps created through the in-game Island Map Editor.

Use the app to get more weapon mods

Decoding encrypted data lets you unlock advanced weapon mods and earn bonus XP. Once you unlock a weapon, you can accept it, give it to a friend, or sell it for more XP directly from your phone. The app also lets you view and customise your loadouts so that you’re ready to play once you’re back in the game.

The app is available for free on the iOS App Store and Google Play.

Back in December, Ubisoft had released a patch for Far Cry 3 that fixed many of the biggest issues players had with the game. The biggest gripe gamers had with the game was its intrusive heads-up display (HUD). HUD elements like mission objectives were ever present and blocked the view, while other elements such as tutorial messages kept popping up.

“Based on feedback from both press and fans, the Far Cry 3 production team is working on a patch that will allow you to toggle most HUD/UI elements based on player preference,” said Ubisoft in a statement when the patch was announced.

“The patch will also avoid issues encountered in the .dll hack that might create a mission walkthrough break (missing QTE prompts, critical information, etc;),” the publisher added. “The team is excited about how the Far Cry 3 community and fans of the game are enjoying themselves, and finding new ways to experience the Rook Islands.”

While Far Cry 3 has been well received, many critics have spoken against the story of the game. Recently, writer Jeffrey Yohalem said that players are missing the point of the game. “The story is itself something that can be solved, like a riddle,” he said in an interview. “What makes me sad is that people don’t engage with playing the riddle, trying to solve the riddle. It’s like a scavenger hunt where people aren’t collecting the first clue.”

The biggest argument the writer has to support this is that the game has quotes from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The quote at the start of the game reads, “In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again." According to the writer, this was meant to mirror the journey of the main protagonist of the game—Jason Brody.

“The Alice in Wonderland quotes are there to clue people in. You analyse them like you would any other text and they let you know what’s going on,” Yohalem said.
