Far Cry 3 patch fixes bugs and improves HUD

Ubisoft has recently released a new patch for the PC version of Far Cry 3 that fixes many issues that the game had been facing on the platform. The company has listed all the problems that are being fixed by the patch on the Far Cry 3 forums.

The developers had announced that they are working on a patch earlier this month. The biggest gripe gamers had with the game was its intrusive heads-up display (HUD). HUD elements like mission objectives were ever present and blocked the view, while other elements such as tutorial messages kept popping up.

The definition of insanity now comes with a better HUD

“Based on feedback from both press and fans, the Far Cry 3 production team is working on a patch that will allow you to toggle most HUD/UI elements based on player preference,” said Ubisoft in a statement.

“The patch will also avoid issues encountered in the .dll hack that might create a mission walkthrough break (missing QTE prompts, critical information, etc;),” the publisher added. “The team is excited about how the Far Cry 3 community and fans of the game are enjoying themselves, and finding new ways to experience the Rook Islands.”

Earlier this month, Sony had announced a PlayStation 3 exclusive DLC for Far Cry 3. The DLC, called High Tides, will be a co-op pack with new levels and will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3. It will be released in January.

According to Sony, “High Tides will take place where the original six co-op chapters left off. These are the gang’s final moments, and we’re really challenging ourselves to go all-out. We’ve got new missions, tougher fights, bigger competitions, some great up-close time with your favorite characters, and explosive moments unlike anything you’ve seen before.”

Ubisoft had showcased the co-op mode in Far Cry 3 in November through a trailer. The co-op game mode is available to play online as well as locally through split-screen. Playable characters are Callum the Scottish thug, Leanard the crooked cop, Mikhail the Russian hitman and Tisha the ex-soldier.

While Far Cry 3 has been well received, many critics have spoken against the story of the game. Recently, writer Jeffrey Yohalem said that players are missing the point of the game. “The story is itself something that can be solved, like a riddle,” he said in an interview. “What makes me sad is that people don’t engage with playing the riddle, trying to solve the riddle. It’s like a scavenger hunt where people aren’t collecting the first clue.”

The biggest argument the writer has to support this is that the game has quotes from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The quote at the start of the game reads, “In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again." According to the writer, this was meant to mirror the journey of the main protagonist of the game—Jason Brody.

“The Alice in Wonderland quotes are there to clue people in. You analyse them like you would any other text and they let you know what’s going on,” Yohalem said.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
