Facebook has had the ‘Save for later’ feature for quite a while. According to Facebook, the Save for later feature was used by around 250 million users. It lets you store articles, videos and images for later consumption.

At the F8 Conference, Facebook announced a dedicated ‘Save to Facebook’ button for the web, which can be embedded by content providers and publishers.

The ‘Save to Facebook’ button sounds quite similar to the ‘Save to Pocket’ feature which lets you save content for later consumption on the app Pocket. While Pocket removes all the formatting on the stories, Save to Facebook button ensures that it remains intact, with the advertisements.

But unlike Pocket, articles stored using ‘Save to Facebook’ will only be viewable in the Facebook app or via the mobile web.

Facebook also said that it would remind users of the saved articles strategically. “At relevant times, we’ll also remind people about their saved things — like when a product goes on sale, or if they’ve saved an article they haven’t read yet,” said Facebook.

During launch time, the ‘Save to Facebook’ button is available on Product Hunt and Overstock . Save to Facebook buttons seems like a good feature for e-commerce sites apart from saving regular news articles and videos. It basically lets you simulate the add to cart or add to wishlist feature inside the Facebook app itself.

Facebook made a lot of announcements on day 1 of the F8 conference including unveiling an open source 360-degree camera .
