Various reports online indicate that details of Amazon’s 8th generation Kindle, the Kindle Oasis, may have been leaked by tmall.com . If the leaks are to be believed, the device will feature a smaller battery, a battery case and revised ergonomics in the form of a thicker handhold and more comfortable button placement.
The images of the device were leaked on tmall.com and spotted by KindleFere . As you can see from the images, the page-flipping buttons seem to be placed on one side of the device, convenient for single-handed use. The images also indicate that you can flip the device over if you’re left handed; an in-built accelerometer will reorient the display.
The buttons are placed in a larger bezel—on one side—and that side is thicker, apparently allowing for a more comfortable grip. The device is said to weigh only 131g and use a smaller battery than previous Kindle devices. We assume that this will cut down on the battery life, but when a device lasts for weeks anyway, we certainly don’t think too many people will mind.
The listing indicated a device with a 300dpi screen and 60% more LEDs, making for a more uniform backlight. The device is also purported to be 3.5mm thin at its thinnest, going up to 8.5mm under the buttons. The case will probably boast of an integrated battery pack and will attach magnetically to the body of the device. The eagle-eyed among you must have noticed the bulge in the case, lending credence to that claim.
Details of pricing and availability are unknown at this time.
