Razer, a gaming oriented hardware company, has indicated that it will be coming out with a smartphone. The current lineup of products by Razer includes laptops, mice, mouse pads and headsets. By the end of the end of the year, Razer hopes to be ready with its first smartphone. The device will be oriented towards gaming and entertainment.
Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan told CNBC, "One of the most hotly rumored things about Razer is that we're coming up with a mobile device. And I can say that we are coming up with a mobile device specifically geared toward gamers and entertainment. We're hoping to have it come ... by the end of the year, so that's something we're working on." The revelation came up during a discussion on the company's imminent IPO in Hong Kong.
If Razer's current range of products are anything to go by, the device is likely to have a focus on performance and durability. Although Razer has not come up with a smartphone so far, they have acquired Nextbit, a cloud oriented startup that came up with a single device known as the Nextbit Robin. However, Razer stopped technical support for the Nextbit Robin soon after the acquisition.
