Chetan Bhagat, author and IITian, came out strongly against the the new pattern of JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) for IITs floated by the HRD ministry and backed by HRD minister Kapil Sibal.

“It will make the mockery of the system,” Bhagat said to CNN-IBN.

One of the major changes in the new pattern is that 40 percentage will be give to the Class 12th board exam. State boards in the new pattern might get very lenient so that students from their states get into the IITs, Bhagat said.

When asked should the IITs be made autonomous of all forms of government control, Bhagat said, “The moment you give a politician charge of an excellent place all sorts of weird things will happen.”

“A politician should not try to control talent, it will lead to disastrous results for the nation,” Bhagat said.
