The release of Anurag Kashyap's most ambitious film till date, Bombay Velvet, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma has been shifted to May, 2015 from 28 November,2014.

According to a Times of India report, only twenty five percent of the film's special effects has been done and the remaining will take more time than the filmmaker had anticipated, making a November release impossible for Bombay Velvet.

Anurag Kashyap, the director of the film told TOI, " I'm recreating a bygone era but I had not imagined that it needs so much of post production. I'm finally learning what it takes to make a big film."

However, while the filmmaker claims that it is the post production work that's responsible for the delay of the film, rumour mill has it that no one, including the actors of the film has liked the first cut. In fact, actor Ranbir Kapoor, who plays the role of  a street fighter, Johnny Balraj, wants to reshoot parts of the film.

However, in a written statement Kapoor denied such reports and said: "The film's VFX is taking time and hence we have decided to move to May. We don't want to do a hasty job."

This isn't the first time that Kashyap shifted the release date of the film. Initially Bombay Velvet was slated for a Christmas release. However, after it was announced that Aamir Khan's PK will release around the same time of the year, the release date was pushed forward to 28 November, 2014.

Bombay Velvet, co-produced by Phantom Films and Fox Star Studios is made on an approximate budget of Rs 94 crore, which makes it the most expensive project of Kashyap till date and therefore the director seems very keen to avoid clashes with big budget films.

Based on a book by Historian Gyan Prakash, Mumbai Fables, the film also stars Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar. Bombay Velvet depicts Mumbai over a span of three decades, from 50s to 70s. It is a story about how the city evolved into a metropolis.
