HTC rumoured to be working on Windows RT tablets

With everyone making a tablet based on Windows 8, it was only a matter of time before HTC tried getting into the game. Rumours are floating around that the Taiwanese company is working on a 7-inch and 12-inch tablet that will run on the upcoming Windows RT Blue. According to PhoneArena , the tablets are codenamed R7 and R12, with the numbers denoting the screen size of the tablet and the R presumably denoting that the tablets will run on Windows RT. There hasn’t been any word on whether HTC will be making tablets that will run the complete Windows 8 instead of just the RT version.

Healthy competition for Microsoft’s Surface, maybe?

The R7 is set to be the smaller of the two tablets with a 7-inch full HD screen. It will supposedly be powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor from Qualcomm, and with 2GB of RAM, it doesn’t seem  the tablet’s performance would ever be an issue. It will have 16GB of internal memory, although how much of this will be usable is up for debate. Thankfully, it will also have a microSD card slot. Behind the tablet will be a 13 megapixel autofocus camera. Connectivity options include LTE/HSPA+ connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and A-GPS. The tablet may not have features such as HDMI, DLNA or NFC, found in higher end devices.

The bigger tablet - the R12 - will be a 12-inch tablet. On the hardware side, it will supposedly be the same as the R7, but the display on the tablet is rumoured to run on a hefty resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. It is at this pixel count that the hardware may start facing problems when attempting to run high-performance apps such as games, but otherwise, the Snapdragon 800 should be able to handle it just fine.

There is no word on battery capacities, dimensions or even retail prices, but the tablets will supposedly be hitting store shelves on October 13.
