These days people want more out of their hand held media devices. Cowon has recently unveiled their Cowon Q5 portable multimedia device. It’s equipped with a 5-inch wide-screen LCD display and is designed for various forms of wireless connectivity.
The device uses a Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 Professional operating system and an AMD Alchemy Au1200 processor. The Q5 is also equipped with a touch screen surface to be used with the Microsoft interface. What’s unique about the Q5 is the fact that it capable of connectivity not simply via Bluetooth but also via Wi-Fi and HSDPA.
The Q5 can connect to the internet using Internet Explorer via Wi-Fi or HSDPA. The Bluetooth radio can be used not simply for transfer of information but also for connectivity with wireless headsets. The device also comes with a GPS navigation software from Tele Atlas. Besides these features the Q5 also has DVR functionality for recording TV shows, and has an integrated FM radio. It’s also equipped with inbuilt speakers.
The Q5 is a bit on the larger side though, with dimensions of 5.5 x 3.5 x 0.8 inches and it weighs approximately 13.4 ounces. It’ll be available in the US by the end of the second quarter of this year and is estimated at around Rs. 21,360 ($499) for the 40GB model and around Rs. 23,500 ($549) for the 60GB model. The Q5 will be available from authorized retailers like Amazon.com and Buy.com as well as JetMall.
