Killarney (Ireland): An ugly double bogey on 11th hole ruined Jeev Milkha Singh’s hopes of a second straight top-10 finish at the Irish Open here.
The 39-year-old Indian who had four birdies, including one on the tough closing 18th hole, carded a 69 to finish at eight-under for the week.
Jeev had a birdie on the first and yet another on seventh to turn in two-under. But the double bogey on 11th set him back. However Jeev pulled back with birdies on 15th and 18th for a 69.
Shiv Kapur had a roller-coaster of a front nine with three birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey and then nine pars on the back nine in his 72, which saw him finish tied 40th at two-under for four days.
Meanwhile, up ahead Simon Dyson (67) produced a stunning finish with two birdies on 16th and 17th and a steady par on 18th to thwart early leader Richard Green (68) by one shot and win the title.
Green, who had three birdies in four holes in the middle of the round, was two clear at the turn. But Dyson struck a purple patch on back nine with four birdies and one bogey on 13th.
Dyson finished first at 15-under to set the clubhouse target and Green came to the 18th tee tied with Dyson and needing only a par to get into a play-off. But the left-handed Australian, Green, bogeyed the 18th and dropped to second, leaving Dyson as winner.
Stephen Gallacher (68) was third at 12-under and Bernd Weisberger (66) was fourth at 11-under. US Open winner, Rory McIlroy (71) was tied 34th while 2010 US Open winner, Graeme McDowell (70) was tied 25th at four-under. The Open winner, Darren Clarke had missed the cut.
