Former champions Nigeria and hosts Ivory Coast are set for a high-voltage clash in the final of the 34th Africa Cup of Nations. Ivory Coast managed to regain form in the knock-out round of the AFCON. They faced off against reigning champions Senegal in the last 16. The match went into extra time and subsequently, into the penalty shootout after each team scored one goal regulation time. Ivory Coast converted all five chances while Senegal missed the second one to take the exit door. Ivory Coast saw enough drama in their quarter-final match against Mali. The hosts went down to ten men in the first half but managed to secure an extra-time win. The Ivory Coast defence looked more composed in the semi-final clash, recording a clean sheet against DR Congo. Sebastian Haller netted the only goal of the match for the home side.
