Breaking News Live Updates: Lok Sabha adjourned for the day amid opposition's uproar over SIR

Congress MP Praniti Shinde raised question from the government asking why is the government not discussing issues related to Special Intensive Revision and blamed for compelling them to adjourn the houses.

Shinde told ANI, “We are not adjourning the house; they are compelling us to adjourn the session. We are demanding a discussion on SIR and I don’t know why they are not taking it.”

Following the ruckus in the Parliament, Union Minister JP Nadda during his address in Rajya Sabha said that one should behave as a responsible member of the Parliament and not as an irresponsible agitator.  

He highlighted the lines of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan during his speech, “I will repeat the lines of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan- In the House, we should behave as responsible members of the Parliament and not irresponsible professional agitators in the House.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet US envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow on Tuesday afternoon. The talks will be related to the US-led Ukraine peace deal.  

“The meeting with Witkoff is planned for tomorrow,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told AFP on Monday.

Following the uproar of the opposition in the Parliament leading to the adjournment of houses, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut targeted the opposition leaders that they are unable to win the elections, which is leading to their frustration.

“The more they lose, the more frustrated they become. The Congress and the rest of the parties have reached a point of desperation,” she said

After the adjournment of Lok Sabha for the entire day, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra blamed the government for the functionality of the houses.  

She said that the government is not ready to discuss any issue. She also said that the air in Delhi is not good and the weather conditions are not breathable.

DMK MP K Kanimozhi, responding to the Lok Sabha’s adjournment, said the Opposition had repeatedly sought a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and broader concerns about the country’s electoral process. She emphasised that safeguarding democracy should remain Parliament’s foremost responsibility.

“We want a proper debate on SIR and the larger issue of protecting democratic rights. That is what we have been requesting,” she said, adding that she would welcome any step that enables a meaningful discussion on electoral reforms.

Union minister and LJP (RV) chief Chirag Paswan on Monday endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “drama” remark, saying many MPs genuinely want to raise issues and engage with people but are “not being given a chance”. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Paswan said constructive dialogue can resolve even the biggest challenges.

Month after Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina was given death penalty for crimes against humanity A Bangladesh court sentenced Sheikh Rehana who is the sister of Sheikh Hasina to seven years in prison on Monday for corruption in a case involving the grabbing of lucrative plots in the capital.

Rehana’s daughter Tulip Siddiq, is a British lawmaker was also handed a two-year sentence in the same case.

During the Winter Session of the Parliament, Congress MP Renuka Chowdhary brought a dog along with her. She defended herself from the accusation saying, “Is there any law?.”

She said, she was on her way to the Parliament while she saw a puppy wandering on the road. She picked up the dog and later sent it back.

She further added, “The real ones who bite are sitting in Parliament. They run the government.”

BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb has accused the opposition of not allowing the both houses to function properly.

“They did not allow the house to function properly and the public wiped them out in the elections,” he told ANI.

Talking about the West Bengal elections, he further added, “The people of West Bengal have made up their mind to remove West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee from power.”

After Lok Sabha was adjourned due to opposition’s slogan against SIR. LJP-R MP and Union Minister Chirag Paswan said that that these uproar snatch the opportunity from those who have come for the first time to share their views.

Talking abut the ruckus created in the Lok Sabha during Winter Session of the Parliament, Paswan added, “If your sole purpose is to create a ruckus and enhance your own political image, then this thinking is against democracy.”

Amid opposition’s uproar against Special Intensive Revision electoral rolls, Independent MP from Purnea, Pappu Yadav said that the democratic system should discuss issues such as SIR, pollution in Delhi and the rising AQI levels, education, employment, and internal security. He also added that there should be focus on farmers, employment, as there is economical collapse in the country.
