Crucial Winter Session of Parliament

As the most-awaited winter session begins today, several important bills aiming at reforming the nuclear energy sector, insurance, and higher education are on the cards.

The government proposed 10 new legislation, which it aims to introduce in the Parliament on the first day of the winter session. Among these is a bill seeking to open up the civil nuclear sector to private players.

Apart from the Atomic Energy Bill, 2025, a bill to establish a higher education regulator, which aims to replace UGC, has also been listed for introduction.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that the government is looking forward to a “constructive and meaningful session."

Meanwhile, the opposition has already lashed out at the centre over the announcement of the session, accusing the government of avoiding a debate on key national issues.

The opposition also pointed out that the average number of sittings has dropped to a record low, calling it “Parliament-ophobia.”

Man accused of train stabbings in UK to appear in court

Anthony Williams, 32, accused of mass train stabbing, is to appear at Cambridge Crown Court next month.

After a police investigation, Williams was charged with seven other offences, including a count of attempted murder on a 14-year-old boy.

Dinner Table Conversation: Why eating earlier may help you during winter

Eating earlier in winter can align with circadian rhythms, improving metabolism, digestion, and sleep quality. Research suggests that earlier dinners lead to better blood sugar control, energy use, and fat burning compared to late-night eating. Adjusting meal times to earlier in the day can help stabilize mood, energy, and sleep during shorter winter days.
