IPL 2020 Highlights, MI vs KXIP Match, Full Cricket Score: Punjab beat Mumbai in 2nd Super Over to cap off thrilling Sunday
October 19, 2020, 00:42:43 (IST)
Monday’s fixture will see Chennai Super Kings face off against Rajasthan Royals. It would be an opportunity for both to climb above KXIP in the IPL standings. Until then, it’s goodbye!

Man of the match KL Rahul

“It’s not the first time, I’m getting used to it but we’ll take the two points however they come. It doesn’t always happen so you don’t know how to stay balanced in a situation like this. We have put in some really amazing performances even in the games we lost. We’re trying to come back harder in each game and wins like these help. After wicket-keeping for 20 overs, batting in the first six is very crucial. We knew it would get slower with their decent spinners, so Mayank and I got a good start over 50 runs. When Chris plays against spinners, I trust them to take down the spinners. Chris coming in helps, he is an experienced player and knows how to carry the team through. You can’t prepare for Super Overs, no team prepares for Super Overs. You have to trust your bowling group and it is important you let them believe their instinct and gut. Shami was certain he wanted to go for six yorkers and he has been phenomenal for us. It is important seniour guys put their hands up for us. We still want to take it one game at a time and when you haven’t won a lot in the first seven, every victory is sweet. The talk in the dressing room is to focus on the process and stay calm. That is the kind of mood we want to set and everybody is professional and competitive and they want to win games. We know we need to win everything from here, but not at the cost of processes, we need to enjoy ourselves here.”

October 19, 2020, 00:27:56 (IST)
“The thought was if I could keep it inside, I could save runs. It was all about just keeping the ball inside the field. It was just the shock of the elbow hitting the ground. It can get hard, but you definitely cannot live without it. The mindset was we have nothing to lose. First ball six, and then the pressure was off us. It was just about going there, watching the ball and then hitting. We’re just happy that we got two points, and getting a win against a team like Mumbai is big! It was a dream come true to play the IPL, and this is one of the top-most leagues in the world. This game will go down in history as well. It’s amazing to be sharing a dressing a room with them. I think he’s a wonderful player. The kind of performances he’s putting for his side is unmatchable, remarkable!” says Mayank Agarwal in a post-match interview
October 19, 2020, 00:27:23 (IST)
“It shows that 1 run and 2 runs are very very crucial in T20 cricket. I am sure it was great for viewership. Kings got the better of us and deserved the two points. Around the 11-12 overs, we knew we were a couple of overs behind. Getting 170-odd, that was a good total – above-par on a track that was a on the slower side. We should have won this I believe deep down. These things happen,” says Kieron Pollard, who’s speaking to the broadcasters after the match on behalf of his captain, who’s not feeling to well after the excruciating evening.

October 19, 2020, 00:12:36 (IST)

KXIP now need 12 runs to win. KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran can’t bat. Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal to try and chase it down. Trent Boult to try and defend it.

BALL 1, KXIP 6/0: SIX! Now that’s one way to start. Not from Trent Boult though. Full toss and Gayle powers it into the stands.

BALL 2, KXIP 7/0: Short ball this time and Gayle pulls it and keeps it down to collect a single. Considered a second but turned it down.

BALL 3, KXIP 11/0: Mayank Agarwal with beautiful timing to collect a boundary. The scores are now level.

BALL 4, KXIP 15/0: KXIP win! Another full toss and Mayank Agarwal sends it to the boundary. KXIP BEAT MUMBAI INDIANS IN THE SECOND SUPER OVER!

BALL 1, MI 1/0: Perfect yorker from Jordan to start with and a single is collected.

BALL 1, MI 2/0: Wide. Well wide.

BALL 2, MI 3/0: Another ball on the money. Pandya collects a single too.

BALL 3, MI 7/0: First boundary of the Super Over comes from Pollard’s bat. Outside off and the half volley is smacked for a four.

BALL 3, MI 8/0: Another wide. Outside leg this time.

BALL 4, 9/1: Full and low full toss. Pollard gets his feet right and they look to collect a second. Throw is at the right end and on the point. Pandya is run out.

BALL 5, 9/1: Outside off, Pollard is adjudged to have edged it behind to KL Rahul. Pollard reviews. There was a sound but there is no bat.

BALL 6, MI 11/1: FANTASTIC FIELDING! Mayank Agarwal goes flying and prevents a certain six. Gets both hands to it, and pushes it to safety. They collect a double. KXIP to chase 12 runs for the win.

October 18, 2020, 23:55:38 (IST)
Bit of a confusion over who can play and who can’t in terms of batting and bowling. The IPL has tweeted, “The six players who’ve participated in the first Super Over cannot play the next Super Over.” That would mean everyone including Pollard can’t play. But he’s walked out alongside Hardik Pandya. Anil Kumble having a chat with the umpires. The ends have been changed too. Chris Jordan has the ball. Pollard takes the strike, Pandya at the non-striker’s end.
October 18, 2020, 23:47:53 (IST)

BALL 1, MI 1/0: Quinton de Kock looks to play into the leg side. Moved to the side to steer the ball but didn’t get the angle right. They collect a quick single.

BALL 2, MI 2/0: Another single. Rohit Sharma miscues slightly. But safe enough to keep it down and collect a single.

BALL 3, MI 3/0: Shami with a full delivery and De Kock with a single.

BALL 4, MI 3/0: Once again Shami with a yorker. Rohit does well to defend it. Hopes to collect a quick run but the run is never on. Dot ball.

BALL 5, MI 4/0: Rohit looks to scoop but doesn’t connect. Collect a quick single. But KL Rahul takes the DRS. Big inside edge on to the pad.

BALL 6, MI 5/0: Shami with another delivery into the block hole. De Kock once again plays into the off side and need two there. One is completed but not a second. KL Rahul with brilliant keeping to run De Kock out. WHAT AN OVER! WHAT KEEPING! ANOTHER SUPER OVER!

October 18, 2020, 23:39:00 (IST)

MI chase 6 runs from 6 balls

Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock with the responsibility of chasing this down. Pollard the next in if needed. Mohammed Shami has the ball. KL Rahul delivering the pep talk. This has to be a fantastic talk if KXIP are to win or even force another Super Over.

KXIP 5/2

Just the five runs from the Jasprit Bumrah over. Got Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul int he over. KL walks back, shakes his head and he’s disappointed he’s not celebrating already. To make his evening worse, Bumrah gets him leg before. That’s plumb. MI need 6 runs from 6 balls.

Ball 3: A single for KL Rahul. On the money is Bumrah. As always.

Ball 4: This time to Deepak Hooda. Goes towards backward square leg and it is two runs. But KL Rahul turns it down.

Ball 5: Another beautiful delivery from Bumrah and only two runs for KL Rahul

GONE!

Another full toss. Nicholas Pooran goes for it all but only miscues it to Anukul Roy. Another duck in the Super Over for Pooran. Not the start KXIP needed

October 18, 2020, 23:30:26 (IST)
1st ball: Jasprit Bumrah looked for another yorker but the full toss only fetches a single.

After 20 overs,Kings XI Punjab 176/6 ( Deepak Hooda 23)

KXIP looked to be in control of things but it has gone awry after that KL Rahul wicket. 9 needed from 6 balls. First ball and Hooda survives with Coulter-Nile going flying. Didn’t catch it but great athleticism to save a four. The second ball, however, the luck goes Jordan’s way with a boundary towards fine leg. 1, 0, 1 and nerves are tested once again. 2 needed from 1. 1 completed but not the second. Jordan is short at the striker’s end. TIED! SUPER OVER ONCE AGAIN!

October 18, 2020, 23:18:59 (IST)
Chris Jordan with a lucky boundary. Gets the inside edge and it beats the stumps and De Kock behind to run away for a four towards fine leg. 4 needed from 4.
October 18, 2020, 23:18:12 (IST)

DROPPED?

Nathan Coulter-Nile goes flying to try and catch that off Deepak Hooda. Didn’t connect well, miscued it and Coulter-Nile with a football goalkeeper style dive but doesn’t hold on. He has saved a four though

October 18, 2020, 23:15:46 (IST)

After 19 overs,Kings XI Punjab 168/5 ( Deepak Hooda 21 , Chris Jordan 7)

Is there a twist in the tale we wondered at the end of the previous over. Possibly not. Hooda and Jordan collect two boundaries from the over as Nathan Coulter-Nile goes for 13 runs. In between those two boundaries, to compound MI’s woes, is Rahul Chahar who lets Hooda survive with a simple catch dropped at short fine leg. He’s had a mare in the field and that just added to it. KXIP need 9 from 6 balls

October 18, 2020, 23:13:22 (IST)

DROPPED!

That’s a routine catch. Mumbai Indians players are disappointed as Rahul Chahar lets a chance go. Hooda looks to pull but doesn’t connect well enough. It is straight at Chahar but he messes it up! He’s looked poor in the field and that possibly is the biggest mistake

October 18, 2020, 23:11:39 (IST)
Nathan Couler-Nile just outside off stump. Slightest bit of width and Hooda opens the face of the bat just a touch and cuts it to deep backward point. That would help calm nerves
October 18, 2020, 23:10:32 (IST)

After 18 overs,Kings XI Punjab 155/5 ( Deepak Hooda 14 , Chris Jordan 1)

5 runs from the Jaspri Bumrah over. Economical from the seamer and he finishes with 4-0-24-3. That over, though, possibly getting the biggest wicket of the day: KL Rahul. And that could have been the game changer. Will it be? Bumrah with a bullet into the block hole and KL Rahul departs for 77 runs. Is there a twist in the tale? Equation: KXIP need 22 runs from 12 balls

October 18, 2020, 23:06:38 (IST)

BOWLED!

YORKER, BOWLED! Jasprit Bumrah with a 148.5kmph yorker and that’s the only way you could have gotten KL Rahul out it seems. This is into the block hole. KL Rahul looks to open the face of the bat to steer it into the off side region but doesn’t connect. Preity Zinta has her head in her hands. Beautiful delivery! Fantastic knock from KL Rahul: 77 runs, 51 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes.

KL Rahul b Bumrah 77 (51)

October 18, 2020, 23:02:10 (IST)

After 17 overs,Kings XI Punjab 150/4 ( KL Rahul (C) (W) 75 , Deepak Hooda 12)

If the game looked out of MI’s reach before Nathan Coulter-Nile ran in, it is an easier prospect now. 10 runs from the over with KL Rahul adding another four to his tally. He’s got seven in the innings now to go with the three sixes. Equation: KXIP need 27 runs from 18 balls

October 18, 2020, 22:59:29 (IST)

500 runs for KL Rahul

KXIP might be languishing at the bottom of the table but it is not down to KL Rahul at least. He’s now past 500 runs this season. That’s his third IPL in a row with at least 500 runs. Warner had four such seasons (2014-17) and Gayle also has had 3 (2011-13)

October 18, 2020, 22:57:02 (IST)

After 16 overs,Kings XI Punjab 140/4 ( KL Rahul (C) (W) 66 , Deepak Hooda 11)

Jasprit Bumrah into the attack. He is 2-0-4-2 so far. KL Rahul’s wicket would be a game changer here. Hooda with two runs and 1 run to start the over. On that second ball, Ishan Kishan cuts the ball off but has injured himself in the process. He’s pulled his hamstring it seems. Physio runs on to tend to him and is taken off the field. Doesn’t look good at all. Bit of a stretch near the dugout but no improvement it seems. He’s on to dressing room then. Anukul Roy comes in as a sub. The cleanup job is undone with a wide, four and a six. 15 runs from the Bumrah over and that’s surely the game for KXIP. Surely!

SIX! Another short ball and this time Deepak Hooda makes the most of the time offered to him. He quickly gets into position to pull and sends it into the fine leg region for a maximum.
October 18, 2020, 22:54:43 (IST)
Touch short from Jasprit Bumrah and that’s all that KL Rahul needs to make the most of the gap. Rocks on to the back foot and collects a boundary. Rahul Chahar does the running to try and cut it off but isn’t able to. Rohit Sharma gestures at him to go for the dive and save.
October 18, 2020, 22:47:25 (IST)

After 15 overs,Kings XI Punjab 125/4 ( KL Rahul (C) (W) 61 , Deepak Hooda 2)

All on KL Rahul once again. What else is new? Deepak Hooda joins KL Rahul into the middle but the KXIP skipper keeps his incredible form going. He’s past 500 runs this IPL season and highlights his touch with the bat with a well placed four from Krunal Pandya’s over. 8 runs from the over. KXIP need 52 from 30 balls

October 18, 2020, 22:45:51 (IST)
Krunal Pandya releases the delivery from the stumps, KL Rahul converts the attempted yorker into a full toss and plunders it into the extra cover region

October 18, 2020, 22:42:44 (IST)

After 14 overs,Kings XI Punjab 117/4 ( KL Rahul (C) (W) 54 , Deepak Hooda 1)

Rahul Chahar goes for 9 runs. Started off terribly with a poor delivery which was rightfully smacked away for a six by KL Rahul. But he follows it up with a wicket of Glenn Maxwell who departs for a duck. Poor shot from ‘Maxi’ there and KXIP have let the momentum slip from their grasp.

WICKET!

Two balls later, Rahul Chahar with a second quick wicket for Mumbai Indians. Tosses it up, Maxwell looks to go big and send it into the stands. But messes up and gets an edge which is taken by Rohit Sharma at first slip. Big heave but no real movement of the feet or connection with the bat. Poor shot that.

Maxwell c Sharma b Chahar 0 (2)

October 18, 2020, 22:38:42 (IST)

FIFTY FOR KL RAHUL!

KL Rahul with a six which also brings up his fifty. Poor, poor delivery from Rahul Chahar and it is duely dispatched.

October 18, 2020, 22:37:30 (IST)

After 13 overs,Kings XI Punjab 108/3 ( KL Rahul (C) (W) 46 , Glenn Maxwell 0)

Jasprit Bumrah comes into the attack to do what Rahul Chahar just did – stop the flow of runs and/or get a wicket. Starts with a fierce 135.3 kmph delivery which KL Rahul just strokes into the off side to collect a double. And then a miscued pull falls short of Hardik Pandya who was running from the boundary. Two dot balls to Nicholas Pooran follow. And then a wicket! Bumps Pooran and the top edge flies into the hands of Coulter-Nile with ease. Fantastic over: 3 runs and a wicket.

October 18, 2020, 22:36:27 (IST)

CAUGHT!

Jasprit Bumrah has delivered a wicket, a much-needed wicket for Mumbai Indians. After good length deliveries, he bangs it short to Nicholas Pooran who pulls but only to find Coulter-Nile at fine leg. That’s a big wicket for MI.

IPL 2020 LIVE SCORE, Mumbai Indians vs Kings XI Punjab latest updates: Kings XI Punjab stop Mumbai Indians’ five match winning streak and register their second win in a row and do so in dramatic fashion. The two teams were level after 40 overs at 176 each. Then after first Super Over at 5 runs. In the second super over, KXIP chase down 12 runs from 4 balls. Preview: For a change, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will go into a game with winning momentum in their stride as they gear up to face high-flying Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 36 of IPL 2020 at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. KL Rahul-led side secured only their second victory in this season against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday. Captain and Chris Gayle scored impressive half-centuries as KXIP chased down a target of 172 thanks to a last-ball six from Nicholas Pooran. Gayle, who was playing his first match in this year’s tournament, announced himself with a bang so that’s the biggest positive for Punjab. But despite being in a very comfortable position, KXIP took the match till the final ball, and almost made a mess of the situation, like a few times they did already in this season. [caption id=“attachment_8927291” align=“alignnone” width=“640”] KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, captain of Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians respectively. Sportzpics KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, captain of Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians respectively. Sportzpics[/caption] There will be no room for errors for KXIP as they will be up against MI, who have been one of the best sides this season along with Delhi Capitals. Rohit Sharma’s side has won five matches on a trot, with 12 points to their name from eight matches. Quinton de Kock is in sensational form with the bat while the bowlers have also delivered when it mattered. But Mumbai, as a side, do not depend on one particular player and that has been their USP. On Sunday, it will be interesting to see if the team management will look to rest some of their key players or go with the same winning combination.
