Despite ICC agreeing to Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) demand of hosting its matches in Sri Lanka and not India, the national government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to boycott the India match on 15 February.
Pakistan boycott India game at World Cup
“The Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan grants approval to the Pakistan Cricket Team to participate in the ICC World T20 2026, however, the Pakistan Cricket Team shall not take the field in the match scheduled on 15th February 2026 against India," the official handle of the Pakistan government said on X on Sunday.
Pakistan’s shocking decision is being seen as a protest against the ICC after it removed Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup for refusing to play in India. Pakistan had earlier said that it could boycott the entire T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Jay Shah-led ICC has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board to make a U-turn. “The ICC hopes that the PCB will consider the significant and long-term implications for cricket in its own country as this is likely to impact the global cricket ecosystem, which it is itself a member and beneficiary of,” ICC said in a statement.
