The upcoming film Welcome to New York promises to be a wholesome entertainer for many reasons: an uncanny cast — Diljit Dosanjh, Sonakshi Sinha, Karan Johar, Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Boman Irani; a premise that is set around IIFA Awards in New York; and in addition to that a dollop of comedy.

Cutting through all that fun and frolic, the film's latest song 'Ishtehaar' was released on 5 February. The song features Dosanjh and Sinha together. But what happens to be the most striking feature of the song is the lead singer, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Accompanying the legendary voice is the newcomer Dhvani Bhanushali.

Speaking to The Hindustan Times, Khan said, "'Ishtehar' is a beautiful soulful rendition and it was a pleasure to sing to the music of Shamir ji [Shamir Tandon] and collaborate with Puja Music for this song. It’s great to witness a young girl like Dhvani who has a lovely voice making her debut and sing besides me. Shammi ji has beautifully composed the song with Charanjeet ji’s [Charanjeet Charan] lyrics giving it that magical touch."

The song features both the actors — Dosanjh and Sinha — in an interplay of past and present. While the former reflects happy moments, the latter is melancholic. The colour tones — faded/pale (for present) and colourful/vibrant (for past) are also reflective of the tensions and sourness in the relationship of the two characters, who were a happy couple in the past.

The film, touted to be Bollywood's first 3D comedy film, also has guest appearances of Sushant Singh Rajput, Rana Daggubati. Welcome to New York hits the theatres on 23 February, 2018.
