Duvvada Jagannadham has become one of Telugu star Allu Arjun’s biggest openings by raking in Rs 33 crores on its first day. It has been three days since the film’s release and it seems like the Eid festivities have catapulted the film’s box-office collection to an impressive Rs 65 crore over the weekend, as per trade analyst Ramesh Bala.
Bala tweeted the box-office numbers of the Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde starrer. Here’s his tweet:

Duvvada Jagannadham, often styled as DJ, took over Salman Khan’s Tubelight in American theaters. While Tubelight released in 342 screens in the US, DJ managed to trump it by opening in just 190 screens. Tubelight collected Rs 1.39 crores as per Bollywood Hungama , while DJ managed to rake in as much as Rs 3.39 crore on the first day in the US, according to Taran Adarsh’s figures.
With Telugu cinema gradually taking over mainstream Bollywood films in terms of business, it should only take a few more box-office clashes to establish if the success of Telugu films is a recurring pattern or just a one time wonder.
