Darsheel Safary returns to films after five years with Quickie, a teenage romcom

Darsheel Safary made his Hindi cinema debut 10 years ago in Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par. He won a Filmfare Award for the Best Actor (Critics’ Choice) and was even nominated in the popular category for his role of a dyslexic student. Twitter[/caption] His career went downhill from then as his next three films, in the capacity of a child artiste, bombed at the box office. He acted in Priyadarshan’s 2010 film Bum Bum Bole, Satyajit Bhatkal’s 2011 superhero flick Zokkomon and Deepa Mehta’s 2012 cinematic adaptation of Salman Rushdie’s classic, Midnight’s Children. Out of these, only Midnight’s Children managed to impress. Now, Safary is 20 years old and is all set to be relaunched five years after his last film. He will play the lead role in Quickie, a teenage romantic comedy directed by Pradip Atluri. In the film poster unveiled by trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Safary’s look is a far cry from his appearance in Taare Zameen Par. The film aims to capture the popular sentiment of the contemporary urban teenage generation, as hinted at by the background which contains dozens of key words that form a major chunk of the vocabulary of the concerned group.

Meanwhile,  Hindustan Times reports that Safary has been working on his play since September last year. The play is directed by Abhishek Pattnaik and is titled, Can I Help You?. Recently, he expressed his desire to stage his play before his mentor, Aamir Khan. Quickie is produced by  Tony D’Souza, Amul Vikas Mohan and Nitin Upadhyaya.
