I wanted to make 'Ghayal' sequel just after it released: Sunny Deol speaks to Rajeev Masand

Sunny Deol has been planning to make the sequel of Ghayal for 26 years now. And so, it is only fair that after so many years of delay the sequel be called Ghayal Once Again.

“I always wanted to make the sequel of Ghayal since the day it was released and was successful. I wanted to do part two of it, even part three. That time it didn’t happen and later on tried but I couldn’t get it. Suddenly I realised that it’s been 26 years,” Deol told Rajeev Masand in an interview.

But does he think the new generation movie-goers would be die hard lovers of the original, that they would quickly connect to Ghayal Once Again?

“I never thought of it from that point of view. I don’t know how relevant it is for today’s generation. But I’m fortunate that the film has been showed so many times [on television>. And that’s why I want to bring that character back again,” said Deol.

It was earlier announced that Rahul Rawail will direct the sequel, then titled Ghayal Returns . Soon after it was rumoured that the whole project was shelved, which was then  opposed by the director.  Later Sunny took matters in his hand and decided to direct the film by himself.

“I thought let’s do it myself. I really had a great time; I enjoyed every bit of it,” said Deol.

He’s hardly had a big release since Singh Saab the Great in 2013. His only release was I Love NY, which also didn’t well at box-office.

“Somehow the producers didn’t believe in it so they didn’t promote it. I loved doing I Love NY because I was playing a guy in his 40s who has not got married and runs away from it,”said Deol.
