#PadsAgainstSexism: German artist uses sanitary napkins to bat for feminism and is wildly cheered

At a time when crimes against women is growing unabated, not only in India, but across the globe, an artist from Germany, Elonë, has chosen a different way to promote awareness on violence against women and feminism.

Elonë has been writing messages on sanitary napkins and placing them all over the German city of Karlsruhe, a report in The News Gazette said. Elonë shared a series of photos, which documented her project, on her Instagram and Tumblr accounts .

Slogans like ‘my pussy, my choice’, ‘Imagine if rapists were as disgusted with rape as they are with periods’, ‘rapists rape folks not outfits’, went viral on the internet as thousands shared her photos.

Elonë has asked those who want to emulate the project to tag their photos and spread the message. She also added that she wanted to educate people that “feminism means equality, not men hate”, a  Bored Panda report said.

Elonë has successfully attracted the attention of thousands of supporters and critics alike from around the world, including people who want to emulate her project in their own cities. Journalist Kamala Sripada reported on how students of Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia University are attempting the same in India. Sripada, who works with CNN-IBN posted some of the student’s images on her  Instagram account  with the  hashtag #padsagainstsexism.
