The upcoming Apple TV will be known as Apple TV 4K and support 4K HDR video playback out of the box. According to a report by 9to5Mac, a new tvOS firmware leaked today detailing some of the features that are expected to be revealed at the launch event today.
The fifth generation of Apple TV will be known as Apple TV 4K. The report hints that the 1080p version variant of Apple TV will also be available to ensure an affordable option for people who don’t require a 4K HDR capable hub.
It is likely to pack a three-core Apple A10 Fusion processor along with 3 GB RAM to handle the 4K content along with support for HDR colour profile. The upgrade in hardware is considerable from the previous generation which packed the Apple A8 processor with 3 GB RAM but it is necessary for the processing power required in the new version. Apple TV will automatically select the widest colour range available in the connected display. If users don’t see the correct colour range option then they need to check that the Apple TV is plugged ‘into a supported HDMI 2.0 port.’
The device will also test ‘Dolby Vision’ on the connected display before turning it on. Apple is also likely to introduce all the new AirPlay 2 features that it showcased at WWDC 2017. Last but not the least, the firmware hints at an updated Siri Remote. The remote can pack haptic feedback or 3D Touch support. Apple TV 4K is expected to pack this updated Siri Remote at its launch.
