BBM Channels now available for all BlackBerry devices

BlackBerry has announced that its BBM Channels will be available to BlackBerry smartphone users. The Channels will be available on smartphones running BlackBerry OS 5 and above, and the BlackBerry 10 OS. The news was first reported by CrackBerry, which said that the BBM Channels has had a very successful run in the BlackBerry Beta Zone and users have been extremely happy with the service thus far. The report pointed out that before the official roll-out this “only those that were invited to the beta could take part of BBM Channels on both BlackBerry 10 and BBOS.” [caption id=“attachment_1253103” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]BlackBerry Messenger Channels are now out of beta mode. BBM Channels are community-based broadcast groups or forums that allow people, brands and communities to interact with each other. The aim is to allow conversations between users and brands, celebrities, artists, etc later on. Subscribing to a Channel will let users join conversations with people who share their interests. Content on the channel is decided by those who own the channel. If you already have BBM installed, you should upgrade your app and the BBM Channels feature will be added. Users can update via BlackBerry World and select My World where the update should be visible. To find Channels and join the conversation on BBM, all you need to do is open BBM and tap the menu icon in the bottom-left corner followed by selecting Channels. You’ll be shown a collection of featured channels and posts that might interest you, or you can search for other channels. For more details, read BlackBerry’s official blog here. Channel owners can post messages, share pictures, initiate discussions, post animated GIFs and chat directly with subscribers. The BBM Channels feature was available in limited beta since May 2013 for users registered with Beta Zone. “This broader beta will give BlackBerry users the chance to try out a growing number of channels and build their communities, either through their own channel or through new contacts made through shared interests on other channels,” said BlackBerry in a press statement.
