Petrol price rise: Why can't other states do a Goa?

Petrol in Goa is the cheapest in the country, thanks to the Rs 11 a litre cut in the petrol price carried out by the Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in May this year. After the hike the petrol in Goa, a BJP ruled state, is priced at Rs 62.40.

“Wherever possible other BJP governments will also consider slashing state taxes,” said Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP spokesperson, on CNN-IBN.

On the sudden price hike Sitharaman said, “The government should have consulted all the parties so that shock is not fallen on the common man. The common man is not represented only by the Congress party.”

When Rajdeep Sardesai asked, who was hosting the show, why doesn’t Narendra Modi do what Parrikar did it in Goa, she said, “Why doesn’t the central government follow Gujarat? The country would have been in better place to live in.”
