Home Minister P Chidambaram has said that the MHA is still unable to name who exactly was responsible for the blast outside the Delhi High Court that has killed 9 people and injured another 47.

Addressing the Lok Sabha in Parliament, Chidambaram said that the blast had taken place despite several measures taken to strengthen the capacity of the Delhi police in this regard. He added that teams from the NIA and NSG have taken over investigations, while a post-blast team of the Delhi Police is also carrying out investigations.

The blast occurred outside Gate no. 5 where Public Interest Litigants queue up to get passes. Chidambaram said that “it is suspected that the bomb was placed inside a briefcase.” He said the entire area where the blast took place has been cordorned off.

As regards to the injured, Chidambaram assured the House that they would get the best possible medical care, and appealed to MP’s and the public to remain united and resolute. He said that the government was determined to find the perpetrators behind the blast, saying “We are convinced that no cause justifies the use of terror”.

Soon after Chidambaram’s statement in the LokSabha, senior leader of the BJP LK Advani said " “An explosion so close to the heart of the capital is deplorable. We hope the Home Minister’s assurance that all agencies will take action will be followed.”
