Public apathy: People watch as men thrash Ludhiana woman with iron rods

Barely a week after the Jaipur incident where motorists ignored two accident victims pleading for help, another incident of a woman being mercilessly thrashed in Ludhiana even as people looked on has come to light.

The incident took place when the woman, who had given Rs 20,000 to four men, sought that they return the money but one of the men, identified only as Manoj, assaulted her with an rod iron, reported CNN-IBN.

He was joined by two other men who also used iron and bamboo rods to beat the woman.

And while three of them assaulted her, the fourth took out his phone and recorded a video of the woman’s public humiliation.

The undated video shows a woman being mercilessly beaten by one man, who is joined by two others who also assault her. They continue to beat her until she falls down and then after getting up she manages to flee.

A man who attempted to protect her was also brutally hit before being pushed aside. Other people present at the site refused to get involved.

The incident, coming to light so quickly after the Jaipur incident, has again brought to light the apathy of regular citizens when it comes to aiding others in need.
