Reiterating strong ties between India and the US, the American embassy in India quoted US President Donald Trump saying the ties between the two nations have been “stronger than they have ever been”. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the American consulate shared a photograph of Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The captioned the image by sharing an old quote of the American commander-in-chief. “I’m pleased to report that with today’s announcements, the friendship between the United States and India is the strongest, I believe it’s ever been. I think our relationship is the best it’s ever been between two leaders of the two countries, and it’s an honour to say that,” Trump said.

On Friday, the consulate did something similar to highlight Trump’s appreciation for PM Modi. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and I are two people who get things done,” read a message from US President Donald Trump posted by the US Embassy in India.

The timing of it all

The messages are shared at a time when the United States is engaged in a month-long war against Iran. While the US is seeking support from allies around the world, India also has ties with Iran. In the Friday post, Trump was quoted as calling for a stronger relationship with India, adding that “this is something that cannot be said for most”.

“Our amazing relationship with India will be even stronger going forward. Prime Minister Modi and I are two people who get things done, something that cannot be said for most – President Donald J. Trump,” the US Embassy in India posted.

Trump’s remarks were shared after he had a phone call with PM Modi last month. During the call, the two world leaders discussed the escalating situation in the Middle East and the need for stability in the region. It is pertinent to note that this marks the first call between Trump and PM Modi since the US and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iran on February 28.

After the call, the Indian Prime Minister reiterated India’s position, stressing the importance of de-escalation and the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, secure and accessible for global trade.

“Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest. Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world. We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability,” PM Modi tweeted. The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact and continue discussions on ensuring regional peace, stability, and the safety of key global shipping routes.
