Umeox X5 could be the world's thinnest smartphone

Umeox might not be a famous phone manufacturer, but the X5 smartphone, said to be the world's thinnest should certainly remedy that.

Chinese manufacturers may not be on the cutting edge of smartphones, but they never cease to explore newer ways to push the limits of hardware and design.

Umeox, one such manufacturer, might not be as famous as Xiaomi or Oppo, but one look at the USP of its next-gen phone, the Umeox X5, and you will want to know more about the OEM. The X5 is the latest addtion to the Chinese company’s smartphone portfolio and it has a depth of just 5.6 mm, which will make it the world’s thinnest smartphone once launched. It must be noted that the handset in question, which GizChina got an exclusive look at, was a design prototype that is said to be under production.

Expected to be thinner than the yet-to-launch Huawei Ascend P6, which is 6.18 mm thick, the Umeox X5 will ship with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS and is said to be coming in July. Not much else is known about the X5, but going by the recent announcements from Chinese phone makers, we can expect some top of the line specs and an attractive price tag.

Umeox currently has a decent portfolio of Android phones, some of which are sold under the Thomson Mobile brand in Europe. However, a look at its Facebook page has turned up some interesting products in the works. Besides other smartphones, the company is also working on a smartwatch powered by Android. There’s also a full HD flagship in the works, which will be announced later this year, according to the company's Facebook page.
