Twitter may finally roll out the highly anticipated ‘mute’ button. The micro-blogging site has released the ‘mute’ feature for a few Android and iOS app users. It works like Facebook’s ‘unfollow’ feature, wherein you can block someone’s posts, without entirely unfollowing them.
This means, one can easily mute an annoying relative, senior colleague or a boring live tweeting session that you aren’t interested in, without unfollowing and letting the other person know.
The option to mute accounts will enable users to prevent other users’ tweets and retweets to appear on their timeline. One will have to manually mute/unmute users and there’s no automatic mechanism yet.
Tweetdeck, Twitter client acquired by the company in 2011, already offers the muting feature. One will also find the mute feature in third-party clients such as Tweetbot. The apps let users mute an account for a day, week or a month.
Twitter has been adding frequent tweaks to its platform lately. It has completely revamped the profile page , and has been criticized for mimicking Facebook. Last month, Twitter has made changes to the advanced search feature on the web version, to allow all users to easily look for tweets from a particular day. Twitter had also added support for emojis on the Web version to make your tweets a bit more colourful.
