Union Minister of State for IT P P Chaudhary laid emphasis on cybersecurity keeping in mind the growing cases of cybercrime. “There is a need to ensure foolproof cybersecurity since hacking of database is common in the virtual world,” he said after inaugurating the newly built National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) campus at Bodhjungnagar in Jirania sub-division.
He called upon the state government and other stakeholders to work hard on cybersecurity to reduce the possibility of misusing of IT enabled facilities - Facebook and Twitter. Chaudhary said that the Narendra Modi government had set a target to take high-speed internet service to the people’s doorstep as part of Digital India vision by 2018. On the shortage of faculty members in NIELIT, Agartala, he said the Ministry would take steps to fill up all vacancies by next year.
Earlier, the minister also inaugurated the Software Technology Park, Agartala centre. This comes right after Symantec’s report “Internet Security Threat Report” detailed that cyber criminals have new levels of ambition in 2016 - a year marked by extraordinary attacks including multi-million dollar virtual bank heists and overt attempts to disrupt the US electoral process by state-sponsored groups.
“New sophistication and innovation are the nature of the threat landscape, but this year Symantec has identified seismic shifts in motivation and focus,” Tarun Kaura, Director, Solution Product Management for Asia Pacific and Japan at Symantec, said in a statement.
