Nintendo to launch its first smartphone game in March: Report

October last year, reports  about Japan’s Nintendo had pushed back the much-awaited launch of its videogame service for smartphones by a few months to March 2016 had surfaced. Keeping up with its word, the company has now reportedly stated that there are no more delays and it would release an official app for mobile, which could possibly be free!

According to a report by Android Authority , Nintendo president Kimishima mentioned to newspaper Mainichi Shimbun that they are, in fact, in time for this launch. The first mobile game, Miitomo, allows users to communicate with each other using Miis. These are avatars, which users create in their own image. In-app purchases will allow users to buy clothes for their Miis as well. The company reportedly aims to have five mobile titles available by March 2017.

Miitomo, which isn’t literally a game, in its true sense, is said to be more of a chat app, that lets users create and customize their Miis characters that were debuted alongside the Wii via the Mii Channel. Users can then interact with other each other through their Miis.

According to an earlier report, investors cheered Nintendo’s move to smartphones. Investors have long called on Nintendo, makers of the Wii U and the portable 3DS, to shift its focus to mobile devices after losing customers to both smartphone gaming app makers and console rivals like PlayStation maker Sony and Xbox maker Microsoft.
