Instagram is rolling out revamped ‘Direct’; combines it with disappearing messages

Instagram has announced the roll out of new ‘Direct’, a revamped take on the Instagram Inbox. In this new update, the company has combined the disappearing ‘Instagram’ stories sent directly to your contact in the same thread as the inbox conversations.

Earlier the ‘Stories’ appeared on the top in the Instagram ‘Direct’ section but this consolidation has ensured that everything from shares to text messages to disappearing media appears in one single thread for users.

You can directly send the photo by tapping on the ‘Camera’ button at the bottom in the ‘Direct’ section of Instagram or enter any conversation and then tap on the Blue camera logo on the lower left side of the screen. You can also swipe right from the main page to directly enter the camera interface. The app gives you the option to share the photo or video shot to a group of friends or individual people.

Disappearing messages will be highlighted in blue in the Inbox and you can only reply these messages once. If you try to take a screenshot or replay the message, a notification will be sent to the person who has sent that message telling them if you took a screenshot or replayed the message.

The primary reason behind this consolidation is the fact that Instagram has seen ‘Direct’ grow from 300 million to 375 million since November 2016.
