Last month, Facebook-owned photo-sharing service Instagram launched the Hyperlapse app for capturing time-lapse videos using iOS devices. Hyperlapse videos can be saved on mobile devices and shared on Instagram.
Today, Hyperlapse received its first update, which allows users to capture time-lapse ‘selfies’ or ‘Selfielapse’ videos using the front camera. This means you can now create a music-video-esque travelogue starring yourself.
You can use this feature to bring out the creative side in you - stand still and have a quickly-moving background, capture yourself walking down the street as your surroundings whirl by, document transformations – getting a new haircut, applying makeup or tying a tie – by propping your phone up against a wall, or holding your phone as you spin around in a chair, or jump on a trampoline.
The 1.1 update adds a button for switching between hyperlapse and selfielapse modes. On switching to the front camera, you’ll see ‘Selfielapse’ appear on the screen before you can start recording. Similar to hyperlapse videos, you can adjust the speed of the movement ranging from 1x to 12s. Videos get saved to your Camera Roll by clicking on the checkmark at the top. You can then choose to let it stay there or upload it to Facebook or Instagram.
