In 2017, the premium smartphones segment reigned with the 18:9 aspect ratio totting displays. It was the Honor 7x that brought the 18:9 aspect ratio sporting FullView bezel-less display to the budget segment. That said, the Honor 7x locks horns with the Xiaomi Mi A1 and Motorola Moto G5s Plus for the top spot.
Here's how the Honor 7x competes with the other two.
Sporting a unibody metal design with rounded corners and sides, the matte finish on Honor 7x provides an excellent grip. The phone has an impressive 77% roughly screen-to-body ratio considering the tall glass display and unibody metal exteriors. At the rear, the phone has two circular pods for the dual-camera setup.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Mi A1 features a very familiar design with matte finish and rounded corners. The capacitive buttons on the Mi A1 appear a tad passé. There's a capsule-shaped dual-camera setup at the back.
Motorola's Moto G5s Plus is made mostly using plastic parts and a few metal parts. Though the finish looks metallic, it isn't entirely. The back has dual cameras placed in a large circle which protrudes a bit.
The Honor 7x clearly leads in this department with a 5.93-inch IPS FHD+ display sporting 2160x1080 pixel resolution. The phone's screen offers an ultra-wide 18:9 aspect ratio providing a more real-estate area for gaming and movies.
Meanwhile, both Mi A1 and Moto G5s Plus carry a display with 1080p resolution.
The Honor 7x touts a dual-camera setup comprising of a 16-megapixel primary sensor with a LED flash and 2-megapixel sensor to support it. On the front is an 8-megapixel snapper. The camera app bundles ample amount of shooting modes including the Wide Aperture as well as the Portrait mode.
The Xiaomi Mi A1 teases a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens and 12-megapixel telephoto lens. Together, these camera sensors support up to 2x zoom and can be useful while clicking photos in the portrait mode. There’s a 5-megapixel camera on the front. On the other hand, the Moto G5s Plus has a pair of 13-megapixel camera with a dual-tone LED flash. The Moto G5s Plus has 8-megapixel camera on the front. The camera apps of the Mi A1 and Moto G5s Plus are relatively barebones compared to the one in Honor 7x.
Huawei packs an octa-core Kirin 659 mobile chipset built on 16nm silicon architecture integrating Mali-T860MP2 GPU chip and paired with 4GB of RAM. The Kirin 659 capitalizes on the ARM's big.LITTLE design to juice out processing power whenever required and otherwise run cool to curb the power consumption. The Xiaomi Mi A1 and Moto G5s Plus run the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset with Adreno 506 GPU to handle the graphics and 4GB of RAM.
Though the competition is close, the Honor 7x with its striking dual camera, ultra-wide display and beautiful metallic design gets an edge over the competition.
