Last week Google released its Android distribution report , and now Apple has disclosed its newest OS distribution numbers. Going by the pie chart on Apple’s developer site 90 percent of Apple’s mobile devices now run iOS 7.
Apple’s developer support programme tracks the iOS version used on devices. The numbers appear to be inclusive of iPhones and iPads. While 90 percent of devices run iOs 7 - including the new 7.1 upadate - iOS 6 runs on 9 percent devices, and all older versions amount to barely 2 percent.
Evidently, the adoption rate has been quite quick, compared to Android. Last week, we saw the latest Android version, KitKat, standing at 17.9 percent and the older Jelly Bean still ruling the roost at 56.5 percent.
MacObserver points out, “This kind of information also serves a secondary purpose. It demonstrates the customer enthusiasm for Apple products. Apple is never shy about showing developers how much their products are embraced, the enthusiasm for the latest iOS release and the business prospects associated with developing for iOS.”
Apple has already pulled the wraps of its upcoming OS version - iOS 8 - to be launched later this year along with the alleged iPhone 6. Read everything you need to know about iOS 8 and iPhone 6 .
