Apple's revamped Siri could soon handle complex, multi-step requests in one go

Apple is preparing a major overhaul of its virtual assistant, with a new version of Siri expected to bring more advanced capabilities when it launches with iOS 27.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the updated assistant will be able to process more complex instructions, marking a shift from its current limitation of handling largely single-step commands. The change is part of Apple’s broader push into artificial intelligence under its Apple Intelligence initiative.

The move signals Apple’s intent to modernise Siri and bring it closer in line with newer AI chatbots that can interpret natural language more effectively and carry out layered tasks.

Revamped Siri will be able to handle multi-step request

One of the most notable upgrades will allow Siri to execute multiple actions from a single prompt. For instance, users may be able to ask for directions to a destination and have those details automatically shared with a contact in one seamless request.

Currently, Siri can respond to follow-up questions without needing to be reactivated, but each instruction must still be delivered separately. The upcoming version aims to remove this friction, making interactions more fluid and intuitive.

The improvement is expected to rely heavily on contextual awareness, enabling Siri to better understand what users are doing on their devices and respond accordingly.

No AI update in iOS 26.5 for Siri

Despite ongoing development, Apple’s latest software updates do not yet include these enhancements. The company recently rolled out iOS 26.5 in developer beta, shortly after releasing iOS 26.4, but the anticipated Siri upgrades were notably absent.

This suggests that the more advanced features are being reserved for a larger update cycle. Apple is expected to preview iOS 27, alongside iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, at its annual WWDC 2026, which is set to begin on 8 June.

It remains unclear whether all Siri features will be available immediately in early developer builds or introduced gradually over subsequent updates.

AI-powered Siri: What more is coming

Beyond multi-step commands, Apple is reportedly equipping Siri with a range of AI-driven capabilities. These include the ability to understand on-screen content, access the web to summarise information, and interact more deeply across apps.

The assistant could also gain image generation features through integration with Apple’s Image Playground, along with a potential “World Knowledge Answers” system for broader queries.

Apple is additionally said to be testing an AI-enhanced keyboard that can suggest grammar corrections, alternative phrasing and improved text inputs, although it has not finalised plans to include it in iOS 27.

In the longer term, Apple aims to transform Siri into a chatbot-style experience capable of competing with platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude . A standalone Siri app for conversational interactions is also reportedly in development, while maintaining deep integration across Apple’s ecosystem.

While Apple is targeting a broader rollout by September, some features may arrive later and could initially be labelled as “Preview”, indicating that they are still being refined.
