Neeraj Chopra is set to begin a new chapter at the event named after him that gets underway less than 24 hours from now in Bengaluru. Not only will the two-time Olympic medallist be competing at the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic as a competitor – and a runaway favourite to walk away with the gold medal around his neck – he will also be donning the hat of an organiser for the first time in his career.
Chopra has been having quite the run so far in the 2025 season; not only did the 27-year-old breach the 90-metre mark for the first time in his career in the Doha Diamond League meet, he also collected victories in the Paris leg of the Diamond League as well as at the Golden Spike Ostrava meet in Czech Republic .

And though he faces stiff competition from the likes of 2016 Olympic champion Thomas Rohler, with Paris 2024 bronze medallist and two-time world champion Anderson Peters also having been part of the original list before withdrawing due to injury , Chopra remains the favourite not just due to his current form but also because of home support.
