Neeraj Chopra dominates Ostrava Golden Spike 2025, wins it with one round to spare

India’s Olympic champion and reigning world champion Neeraj Chopra won the men’s javelin event at the Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 in the Czech Republic on Tuesday night. He threw 85.29 metres in his third attempt to finish on top of the standings.

Neeraj makes brilliant comeback after early setback

Neeraj had a rough start, as his first throw was a foul. But he quickly recovered with an 83.45m throw in the second round and then threw his best of the night in the third round. That big throw gave him the lead, and no one else could go past it.

South Africa’s Douw Smit came second with a personal best of 84.12m, while former world champion Anderson Peters from Grenada finished third with 83.63m. German star Thomas Rohler, the 2016 Rio Olympic gold medallist, was also in the event but could only manage a best of 79.18m.

Neeraj registers second straight win of 2025

Neeraj’s latest victory has come just four days after his top performance at the Paris Diamond League, where he won against the likes of Julian Weber and Peters. Neeraj threw 88.16m to win the title. Weber (87.88m) finished second, while Luis da Silva (86.62m) of Brazil surprised everyone to take the third spot. Peters came fifth.

Before that, Neeraj took part in the Doha Diamond League and finished second despite registering a throw of over 90m (90.23m), the first for the Indian ace. He was outperformed by Weber, who also registered his first-ever 90m throw (91.06m) and went past Neeraj in the final round.
