Fans will be able to get a unique perspective into Argentina superstar Lionel Messi and how he operates on the football pitch with Major League Soccer (MLS) set to debut ‘Messi Cam’ in the upcoming season playoffs.
The legendary forward, best known for 17-year run with Spanish giants FC Barcelona, has had quite the impact on Inter Miami’s fortunes ever since he decided to join the American top-division after parting ways with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2023.
The Fort Lauderdale-based club, in which England and Manchester United legend David Beckham serves as co-owner and president, used to finish in the mid-table or in the bottom half since making their debut in 2020. Messi’s arrival, however, has led the the club winning the Supporters’ Shield this season after topping the regular-season standings.
His decision to turn down an offer from the Saudi Pro League and join MLS has led to Messi becoming a face of sorts for the MLS. And the league has ensured from time to time that the spotlight remains on the biggest draw in the league.
Not only does the 37-year-old have his own bodyguard, Yassine Chueko, the league had previously debuted one version of the ‘Messi Cam’ last year – during the US Open Cup semi-final against FC Cincinnati in which there was one camera operator dedicated to the Argentine.
The version of the ‘Messi Cam’ that will feature in the upcoming playoffs, for which Inter Miami’s opponents are yet to be decided, is somewhat different.
What is the ‘Messi Cam’ that will debut in the MLS 2024 Playoffs?
Instead of a camera focusing on Messi at all times, the 2022 FIFA World Cup-winner with Argentina will be wearing a camera on his chest at all times during his post-season debut to give fans a first-person view of the magic that he weaves on the field.

The MLS has announced that social networking giant TikTok will be broadcasting an exclusive ‘Player Spotlight’ stream, which will feature live feed from the camera that Messi will be wearing on his chest, one that will capture every shot, goal and celebration of his during the business end of the season. Fans can tune into the live stream on MLS and Inter Miami TikTok profiles.
It will be the first time the ByteDance-owned platform will be broadcasting an entire game with focus on one player. With a legend such as Messi on board, the American league sure isn’t leaving any stone unturned in order to tap into his star power.
