It’s Monday and the world’s largest democracy has made its choice — and as the Ganga swallows the sounds of a noisy election, you can still probably hear the drums, the din, the slogans and the speeches.

Sandip Roy was on the campaign trail in Varanasi —one of the two constituencies in which PM designate Narendra Modi stood from against AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal.

India’s holiest city had suddenly become a political hotbed.

This is an audio portayal - a soundscape of Varanasi if you will, that maps how the sounds of India’s most important election reached a crescendo and then died down by a river that has been holy for longer than India has had democracy.
