Exit polls see a saffron wave sweeping through Uttarakhand

Almost all exit polls in Uttarakhand predicted a big share of seats falling to the BJP. Except C-Voter, which predicted an equal division of seats between BJP and Congress, saying both will win 32 seats apiece. Today-Chankya shows a major difference of seats between the parties, giving 53 seats to BJP and just 15 to Congress. Likewise, India Today-Axis saw 46-53 seats in favour of BJP and between 12-21 for Congress.

91,849 voters will use their vote

A total of 91,849 voters will use their vote, in which 46268 are male and 45581 are female voters.

Poor weather conditions and snow fall in the higher hills of Chamoli district may cause hindrance in voting at some polling booths.

Polling parties have reached on all the 169 polling booths in the constituency.

Gairsain: A prominent poll issue

Gairsain, which has been demanded by hill dwellers to be made a permanent capital of the state, is a prominent poll issue in 2017 assembly elections in Uttarakhand. Gairsian falls in the same Chamoli district, Karnprayag assembly seat comes from. Gairsain is expected to be a deciding factor in polling because of hill sentiments among the voters.

Karnaprayag polling 

A total of nine candidates are in fray, including sitting MLA Anusuya Prasad Maikhuri from congress and Surendra singh Negi from BJP.

This assembly seat has been the battle field of eminent leaders in Uttarakhand politics as former chief minister Ramesh Pokhariyal has contested three times from Karnprayag. Now deputy speaker of legislative assembly, Anusuya Prasad Maikhuri is sitting MlA from this seat.

Polling began in Karnprayag assembly seat in Chamoli district today in the morning. Elections in this constituency were deferred due to the death of BSP candidate Kuldeep Singh Kanwasi in a road accident. Kuldeep’s wife is contesting from BSP on this seat.
