After four top Trinamool Congress members were arrested in connection with multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam, a TMC MP from Basirhat on Wednesday warned against framing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the scam saying that the state would burn if she were to be arrested.
Dubbing Mamata as ‘agnikanya’ (woman who has survived fire), Idris Ali said: “If she is touched or arrested then Bengal will be on fire. In that fire lot of people will die.”
The India Today report also quoted the MP as saying that even the Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not handle Bengal’s ‘agnikanya.’
The remark came after one of the key accused in Saradha scam — Kunal Ghosh — claimed that the chief minister was the biggest beneficiary of the scam.
Seen as an open threat to the CBI, a Zee News report noted that Ali and other TMC members seem to be under pressure since the agency apprehended four top members of the party.
Ali showed no remorse for his statement.
Meanwhile, according to reports , another TMC MP Satabdi Roy is likely to be summoned by CBI in connection with the ongoing probe.
