The NDA yesterday failed to announce their Presidential candidate, while the Congress was still recovering from the ‘googly’ thrown at them by their allay Mamata Banerjee. Last week Mamata refused to support Congress’s candidate and went ahead to propose three candidates - Somnath Chatterjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Sigh and APJ Abdul Kalam.
“Well, I think it was extremely immature and embarrassing not only for the Congress president but even to the Prime Minister and to Mr Chatterjee. And of course I don’t know if they had consulted Abdul Kalam sahab also,” said Digvijaya Singh, General Secretary of the Congress Party, to CNN-IBN. Singh was a guest on Karan Thapar’s show Devil’s Advocate.
Digvijaya Singh also added he didn’t meet the Prime Minister, after the announcement was made by Mamata, but he was obviously deeply upset with the incident.
When Thapar asked Singh has Mamata exhausted Congress’ patience, he said, “I won’t say that, Congress has immense patient.”
Regarding the possibility that Trinamool Congress can withdraw its support from the UPA, Singh said, “Well, if some immaturity can’t be avoided, it has to be faced.”
