Chief Minister Narendra Modi has openly challenged Rahul Gandhi to campaign in Gujarat as the Congress general secretary is yet to visit the state when the first phase of Assembly polls is just a week away.

“A Congress leader camped for 12 months in Uttar Pradesh before the elections were held there. But what happened? Congress was wiped out of the state,” Modi said in an election rally targetting Gandhi.

The Congress leader did over 200 rallies in Uttar Pradesh targetting the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Bharatiya Janata Party but all his efforts went futile. Gandhi had taken total charge of the campaign before the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

Questions are raised if the Amethi MP has not been able to come out of the Uttar Pradesh defeat.

While Congress president Sonia Gandhi will address two rallies in Surat and Somnath on 7 December, the itinery of Rahul Gandhi is still not known.

Reacting to Modi, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister and Congress spokesperson, said, “Rahul Gandhi does not need a visa to go to Gujarat.”
