BJP files complains with EC over direct cash transfer timing

The Bharatiya Janata Party today questioned the timing of the direct cash transfer scheme calling it a violation of the Model Code of Conduct and lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India.

"The Election Commission has assured us that they will look into the matter and will take a right decision in this regard," senior BJP leader LK Advani told reporters in New Delhi.

Advani was also accompanied by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj.

"The new direct cash scheme, aimed at plugging leakages and ensure efficient delivery of benefits, will initially cover 29 welfare schemes mainly related to scholarships but leave out beneficiaries of subsidised food and fertilisers which involve "complex and difficult" issues"—a Business Standard report said.

The state is going to polls on 13 and 17 December. The counting is scheduled on 20 December.
