Bizarre O'Brien: 'I will never sit next to a left member'

Responding to a straight-forward question from Rajdeep Sardesai on CNN-IBN, “Will he ever sit next to  a left member in Parliament?”, Derek O’ Brien staunchly replied, ‘No.’

Derek O’ Brien, member of Rajya Sabha and spokesperson for Trimanool Congress, was on a show to defend the comments made by his party member at a Trimanool Party meeting. Jyotipriya Mullick, the Food Supplies Minister, had advised Trimanool workers to socially ostracise CPI-M members. This comment has angered the people of West Bengal who are already wary of Mamata Banerjee’s ‘fascist’ actions.

A few days back Mamata Banerjee justified the arrest of a Jadavpur University professor for circulating a cartoon over email poking fun at her and the party’s decision to ask former Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi to ste down from his post.

Derek O’ Brien supported the minister’s statement and said, “One should understand the social milieu in which this was said.”
